BMC filter cleaning

    My 99 model SV650s has had a BMC filter installed by the previous owner.
    What is the propper cleaning procedure for these filters? BMC's website
    makes no mention of it. I thought I'd ask before buying a K&N cleaning kit
    to clean the filter.

    Also, I pulled out the filter and was looking at the element fibre. There's
    shitloads of holes in it. Is this normal for re-usable filters? I wiped
    the inside of the airbox with a clean white cloth but it didn't appear to be
    dirty, just a bit oily. I think the red oil was from the filter.
