What are they, i know bugger all about them, but they look quite useful for winter. How slow are they? How fast are they? Any good on dual carraigways? Will I look even more of a **** than i normally do? -- Nige, BMW K1200S Range Rover Vogue Suzuki GSX-R600 Racebike
Impossible surely? I understand that if they hit something solid they can sort of roll forward and go bowling down the road like a hoop.
I know where you live.... That could be awell funny, not for me like, but it could brigthen up some cunts morning -- Nige, BMW K1200S Range Rover Vogue Suzuki GSX-R600 Racebike

Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, The Older Whaaaaat? And BMW's marketing department missed this? Cunts. Suddenly I want one! Oh wait, you're a journalist. <crest falls> It's not true, is it? <sob> You bastard. -- Wicked Uncle Nigel - "He's hopeless, but he's honest" I have already made the greatest contribution to the fight against climate change that I can make: I have decided not to breed. It's a gutless 125cc. Stop faffing and get a Bandit 650 with a Scotoiler. Cheap as chips. Hundreds around. OK to ride. Breakers are full of spares. Just budget for a decent rear shock from Hagon and their fork spring upgrade.
ISTR they do a 200cc one as well? -- Steve Parry BMW R80RS, 03 BMW R1100S Boxercup, 07 BMW K1200GT SE 00 BMW R1150GS, 87 Yamaha FS1, Sukida SK90PY, 91 Kawasaki AR50, BMW 330Ci www.gwynfryn.co.uk

Yup. Someone at work has one and I asked him how he got on with it. He loves it but it only does about 70 flat out with a following wind. I could possibly see the attraction in that you are well protected from the weather but it is a gutless wonder. -- Malc Rusted and ropy. Dog-eared old copy. The 125 will clearly be a pain on the motorway but the 200 (maybe really 180) might just about go ok if all you want to do is to get there. The idea was to make a scooter that had some crash resistance. Had roof/windscreen/roll-cage which kept the rain off and was tough enough to make it worthwhile to have seatbelts. In many countries it was helmet exempt, but not of course the UK. Used Piaggio engine (and presumably tranny). Obviously motorcyclists were not interested in the crash resistance (since might make the journey less exciting) and so it failed commercially. The failure to ask bikers if they would spend money if it avoided broken limbs and other bits might be considered a marketing failure. I am sure they did ask, but it appears that the market research did not produce the correct result since I am pretty sure that a lot of money was lost. They were also rather costly. £4000 for a 125 scooter IIRC. Pillion gets to hang on the back outside the cage:-(
I had the smallest engined one as a loan bike a while ago. It's a strange riding position but fairly normal if you also drive. It was definitely underpowered for the amount of metal you are dragging around, maybe the bigger engine is better but I doubt if it would satisfy anyone who likes anything other than cruisers. The weather protection was very good - after a lecture on the weird parking stand/brake thingy I set off and it took me a few miles before I remembered I hadn't got my gloves on. Unfortunately the protection was not good enough for the gloves to still be on the back seat where I had put them down at the start of the lecture. Didn't seem weavy or anything, just underpowered. Never seen you, so there could be a risk there.
Into my third week now of a 60 mile each way commute on a Bandit 600. In general it's pretty good. I've already fitted the snotoiler as I'd read they can be hard on chains. I think the 50 miles on the motorway is going to be a bit crap in the winter, but I may switch to train then anyway. Interesting point about the rear shock, it's hard as hell over the bumps. A little bit wobbly at high speed too. I'll have to google the suspension mods.
Given they're designed as an around town runabout 70 would be adequate I guess? -- Steve Parry BMW R80RS, 03 BMW R1100S Boxercup, 07 BMW K1200GT SE 00 BMW R1150GS, 87 Yamaha FS1, Sukida SK90PY, 91 Kawasaki AR50, BMW 330Ci www.gwynfryn.co.uk
