Isn't it going to be a CanBus bike?

In list price, I doubt there'll be much in it. List, a TDM is about
6.5k. By the time you've larded the BMW up with extras, it'll probably
be nearer 8k, but then so will the TDM.

Unreliable? Hm. Jury's out, on that one. The F series hasn't had a bad
press as regards reliability, but then it's too new really.

Slower? Yes, a bit. BMW is claiming over 125 for the 800: a TDM900 is
    probably at least 10mph quicker.

Fun factor? Hard to judge. I haven't ridden the TDM9090, though I did
ride the 850 and thought it shite. And the BMW is an unknown quantity.

  3. No. You bastard.

Is it me, or is it physically a small bike? Either that or the rider is
    a a paid-up member of the Liebstandarte.

    He's shortish.

Seat height is 850/880mm (33.4/34.6 inches for the luddites)
Weight is 207kg wet. Puts it about the same size as a Transalp.

So, it's about 40kg lighter than my R1150 with a similar power
output and over 30 bhp more than the Transalp.

    Perhaps....

207kg is still seriously fucking heavy for a bike with any kind of
    off-road aspirations.

I suppose they've got the HP2 on offer for anyone who wants more power
    and less weight.

You've checked the specs of the HP2, yes? If not, get the Kleenex ready
    first.

I'll be giving my views on the HP2 shortly. My elder brother has one
and reckons it's brilliant, I suspect it'll just be an overweight,
    overpriced turd.

You'd buy a bike with a B&Q spirit level cable tied to the frame as an
aid to setting the suspension? I should have tried to sell you my FZR.

If you compare it to the ZX, then maybe. Think of it as a latter day
    R80/GS though & it's a belter.

    I'm not betting against you.
An XT500 was a tad overweight off road.

A quick google indicates that CanBus seems to be a licence to print
    disclaimers.

For a brief period in history I tried to use an XT500 against older KTM's
and RM's. No other reason than I happened to have it. Was a silly idea and
    it hurt.
OTOH in dunes, along beaches, gravel quarries and up dirt tracks the XT was
lots of fun. I expect an HP2 or the like is too under those circumstances.

I'm comparing it to the other options available in the same class.
He's got road wheels and sticky tyres on his at the moment so I'll be
throwing it at a few corners to see what it's capable of.
