  1. I thought you'd react to that. I note you haven't disagreed with
    anything else I said though.

You are INSANE albeit in a nice way!!
Well it's 10/32 against 11/32 or 11/31 so work out the difference in
cruising speed in top! The K75S also had an 11/34 option bizarrely.

The final gear ratio on the 100 and the 75 is different 1.61:1 and
    1.67:1 BTW

I don't think that marks me out as particularly insane. The K75 is
meant to be pretty bullet proof and my commuting K100 is starting to
worry me... However the recent workshop efforts seem to have sorted out
the stalling when cold, the speedo issues, the fork seal leaks. etc.
However the K100 is on 116k and is 21 years old so maybe a newer (hah!)
bike with fewer miles is a better move. Of course a 3 year old Pan
would have been less risky but also more expensive and I *hate* seeing
cash tied up in depreciating assets that I'm just going to ride into the
    ground.

The K100RT cost me 1400 quid 3.5 years and 50k miles ago. I've spent
little on it beyond tyres, oil and other sundry consumables since (most
expensive item was a starter sprag clutch at 100 quid). That strikes me
    as cheap motoring.

I'm hopeful that the K75 being a similar age and having a similar
mileage to the K100 when I bought it will do me for a similar period.
The only question is whether the loss of 250cc will be that noticeable
and will mean I don't get on with it. Of course, the other question is
am I buying a lemon unseen. We'll see in due course, if I am 800 quid
isn't the end of the world.

Current plan is to out the K100 if the K75 measures up, after I've
transferred the gauges, high screen, heated grips, luggage, new brake
disks calipers and tyres to the K75. Failing that I'll just use it from
    time to time...

This brings the full contents of my insurance policy to: K1100LT,
    K100RT, K75RT, ZXR750H1. There's also a K100 parts bike in my garage.

Hmm, I think that means about a 10% higher gearing if I switch to the
K100 bevel box (I have a spare one). Might be worth bothering with
since I'm just trying to eke out the petrol consumption and possibly
    tyre life.
Ah, I'd assumed they were the same.

Well it as intended with some humour, getting the Full Set and all that.
I just don't see the point of the K75 over the 100. similar weight and
fuel consumption but less performance and torque. As I've said here
before, there were always concerns over it's stability, it didn't seem
    to like loosing that cylinder.

    Cheap is cheap though.

I know what my ideal BMW is, just *very* difficult to achieve.
R1100S Boxer Cup with a conventional fuel tank and an R100RS fairing
    etc.
The toughest bit is having the engine re-balanced to get rid of the
    HORRID vibration they suffer.

I passed three Norn Iron Rockets on the way down to the Ferry for EOSM.
They eventually caught up and boarded the same ferry. Utterly Utterly
    hideous piles of shit.

I never suggested that I was a fast rider. In fact, outside the
perpetual traffic jam formerly known as the Southeast of England, I'm
likely to be a lot quicker cross-country in a cage[1].

[1] And no Golf floorpan required for that either.

There's a supercharged one in this month's Superbike that sounds ...

    ... interesting.[/QUOTE]

I'm sure it has lots of straight line performance even in standard trim
but it's an overweight affront to the eyes. A Dnieper outfit looks good
    by comparison.

Now I kid you not, the three I saw were sheltering under a bridge upside
of the border waiting for the rain to stop, they were wearing
waterproofs. When they reached the ferry the bikes were all shiny clean

Well, it rides well, the engine feels v.strange though... there's no
vibration! It feels a lot lighter.

Unfortunately it's got a new set of Macadam 50s on it which were
slipping and a sliding around on wet roads today.
Well, yes. But cheap is also "fucked clutch". Fortunately the vendor
has been reasonable and has offered to take it back or pay for the
parts, I'm happy enough with the engine, chassis and bodywork so paying
for parts seems a fair compromise to me.

Didn't take me long to get the tools out on this one... it's on the ramp
    getting it's gearbox removed tomorrow...

*sigh* another exhaust to remove- that'll be the third one this year and
the studs/nuts look well fucked. With a little luck I'll get it off
    without too many problems...
Well, I'm only really interested in the 8v K's because after four or so
years I know them pretty well and they're solid and good to work on.

However, I think the supply of them is going to dry up soon as most of
them are getting on for 20 years old now.

Is it true that they take the same clutch plates etc as a VW Polo?

Don't have a clue, I'd heard they shared Bosch parts for the
    ignition/injection.

    Checking on the ibmwr.org site:
    http://www.ibmwr.org/otech/partsubs.html#Kclutch

"I once made a living buying/selling VW's in my driveway also. When the
set screw fell out of my gear shift lever on my K bike setting off a
series of events that led to a complete tear down I noticed that the
clutch plate ($100+) is nearly identical to a 40 horse VW. I think the
180 mm. $20. Made by Sachs, Brazil.

The one difference was the pad thickness. Would have required riveting.
    I decided I didn't need a new one anyway. "

I guess this says they are similar but still different.
