Just been to see one that I have potentially now bought, just gotta wait a week until I commit. Its a 95 plate, 15,000 miles!!!! Ex-plod machine, that Im getting for pennies really. I want to use it across in the UK and so it has to be relaible, anything major to look out for? -- Gavin. GSXR600K1 Twitter: http://twitter.com/gavin_wilby Blog: http://www.stoof.co.uk
If you believe that a 15 year old plod bike has only done 1000 miles per year I have this nice bridge to sell you.
heh - its whats on the clock! But Im not that arsed the bike is clean enough. -- Gavin. GSXR600K1 Twitter: http://twitter.com/gavin_wilby Blog: http://www.stoof.co.uk
Not when its been painted they wont be... -- Gavin. GSXR600K1 Twitter: http://twitter.com/gavin_wilby Blog: http://www.stoof.co.uk
Bear in mind its Manx from new - its not possible to do THAT many miles. -- Gavin. GSXR600K1 Twitter: http://twitter.com/gavin_wilby Blog: http://www.stoof.co.uk
Unless you plan on changing the seat and the panniers then it'll always be recognisable as a plod bike. Unless you're getting it *very* cheap I'd suggest having a look on Ebay so you know what they're going for over here because older K series beemers are dirt cheap even if they're not ex plod.
£600, with the bonus I dont have to come to the UK and get it. -- Gavin. GSXR600K1 Twitter: http://twitter.com/gavin_wilby Blog: http://www.stoof.co.uk
Actually the 75RT is a bit of a cult bike and it's pretty rare, so they did hold their value reasonably well.
OK, that explains it. Assuming 200 working days/year that makes 5 miles per day which is perfectly credible on the island.
More likly it was at the *side* of the road being very still. -- Gavin. GSXR600K1 Twitter: http://twitter.com/gavin_wilby Blog: http://www.stoof.co.uk
Well if it's tidy enough then it's pretty solid. I like the 75 more than the 100 to be honest. No real bad bits I'm aware of; well... make sure you grease the splines at the bevel box end because these do go. Check the fan works on the radiator because these seize if they don't get used and then you overheat in traffic. With age the radiators also go. Apart from that, normal servicing really. According to the online MOT history mine had a mileage of 223,277 miles at one MOT (failed) and three days later (pass) its mileage was 65,531. I bought it just after this and the clutch was utterly fucked. So I don't believe the 65,531. Now it's indicating 99,890 miles so it's either done 99,890 or 257,636 miles. I'd like to believe it's the latter. Reliable bikes. Would still trust it on most journeys (not sure about arctic use...)
They look like Police issue fibre glass jobbies, not worth much at all I dont think. -- Gavin. GSXR600K1 Twitter: http://twitter.com/gavin_wilby Blog: http://www.stoof.co.uk
As long as the engine isnt likely to go bang Im OK with it. TBH, its only for me to piss around on in the summer in the UK, the 600 Ill have for hooning around over here. -- Gavin. GSXR600K1 Twitter: http://twitter.com/gavin_wilby Blog: http://www.stoof.co.uk
75 engines - if looked after - will last for a very long time, much like the 100 engine. It'll do fine. It might struggle a little to get up to the speed limit and beyond, but it'll do the job.
