    Hi folks.

I guess this might be for Alan P. or Boxer, or other BM cognoscenti.

My R850R, 1998 model, when I bought it, had no Cat Code Plug in the
socket to "tell" the motronic controller box that it was an R850R.

    My mate's 1999, UK model R850R was the same, and another 1998 R850R I've
    come across, again, the same.

Were they actually sold without the plug, or was the plug removed for
    some reason.

I have heard that the R1100Rs suffered from uneven fueling, and the
removal of the Cat Code Plug cured this, but I am curious if this was
    considered standard?

    regards,

Hi John. Yeah, I think you had sent me that URL previously, when I was
    originally chasing Cat Code info.

I'm now just curious as to what, if any, cat code plug came with Ozzie
sold R850Rs, and, if they were supplied, why were they removed.

On the two bikes that I have refitted the plug to, they both felt much
nicer to ride with the plug in, than without, and I wouldn't have
thought R850R riders would be the type of folk to pull the plug purely
in the hope of an extra 3 or 4 kph at the top end.

    regards,

    Look up on
    http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do?vin=&part=&kind=M&steering=&trans=&arch=0
and see what plug is listed for your model, go and buy (borrow) one and try
it. I have long been of the view that the Oilheads were best left alone, my
1999 R1100S ran fine when well tuned by Ray Peake (07) 5543-5962 and my
R1200GSA is never likely to be run in to find out.
