Well I bought my sickle today, the plan for the BMW went out the door when I
    got my tax bill.
So I lowered my expectations, and by that I mean, what I could afford.
I started looking at the Honda VTR Firestorm, had a look at a nice one at
    Penrith on the weekend.
But after doing some research I was put off by the fuel consumption figures
that I read and the small size of the fuel tank.
    Nice bike though.
So I started looking at the TRX850 again, even though I had previously ruled
the Trixie out purely due to the riding position.
Bugger the sore back, I bought another Trixie anyway.
It was 2 years since I sold my original TRX, and 2 years since I last rode a
    bike.
And I was really pleased at just how great and how natural to be back on a
    bike again.
I'll live with the discomfort on longer trips.
Pretty pleased so far with what I got for my money, this one has Yoshi
pipes, my original had Magnum, and I think there is probably a difference in
how the Yoshi pipes make power. Apart from being quieter they seem to make
less power down low, but come on very nicely when the revs rise.

Once again, thanks to all who answered my original posting

Have fun - they're a great bike. If it has the stock front brake
cailpers, have a dig around the wreckers and see if you can unearth
    any R1 or R6 bluespot calipers (errm 99 to I think 03 or 04 - the
wreckers will know - they were replaced with goldspots) - they're a
bolt up fit and a huge improvement. Should be fairly cheap nowadays
too (there'll be plenty of wrecked early Rx's by now !)
