BMW seat adjustment?

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by crazycam.manson, Dec 22, 2008.

  1. Hi folks.

On the R1100R (and the R850R of the same age) the seat can be moved to
one of three different positions giving height adjustment.

Do the later R1150R's have this same system?

    regards,CrazyCam

  2. It was an option on the '05 model I looked at. BMW specs for the '04
    model don't mention it.

The 1200RT has two positions, or you can buy another lower seat and
have two positions with it too. I think all 1200s are similar, but not
    sure.
I got my original issue standard seat reshaped so that it tips me a
bit away from the tank. That with slightly lowered footpegs and
slightly raised bars has made a huge dufference to comfort. No more
popped kneecaps, sore wrists or slipped disks, and 6-7 hour ride days
    are not a chore.

The 2008/2009 R and F series have shortarse seat options - I'm not
sure how many height options there are and whether you need to
purchase a seperate seat or not, but the F650 with the shortarse seat
option is surprisingly low and would make an excellent shortarse
    learner bike or commuter

If it's the new F650GS (twin) you're talking about, it also has a
shortarse factory lowered suspension model... and it _would_ make an
excellent learner bike, except that it has about 138cc more capacity
than most LAMS regulations will allow.

  7. If you mean BMW are stupid, I'd take issue with that: the last thing
they want is a LAMS bike in the stable. Didn't Ducati up the capacity of
the Monster around the same time? H-D would have a similar problem ("
Hey, Mum, why is that agro patch club dude riding a LAMS bike? " ) if it
    wasn't for the price-point.

If you mean the LAMS rules are stupid, I'd take issue with that too:
    they're way better than an arbitrary 250cc limit. I don't want 17yo
hoons riding Busa's; it's bad enough that they can drive SS Commodores.

Most Harley Davidsons are learner legal in ACT. Some BMWs are also. The
old F650 (before it turned into an 800 labelled F650) is learner legal
in all states which have LAMS

And to answer your question, yes I think BMW are stupid for labelling an
    800 as a 650, yes I know an R1 isn't 1cc nor is an R60 or R80
(60cc/80cc) - but there was consistency and logic in that. The F650 was
originally called that because it was a 650, upping it to 800 and
keeping the 650 badge is just dumb (and confusing)
