Well look, if you go back to the 4 Martian mothers who escaped the
environmental devastation at home and landed in Africa, then all homo
sapiens are immigrants and we massacred the Neanderthals.

I'm happy to go with a 400 year rule and the rest of you can **** orf home

Seems fair but we Brits like to tease you a bit. Its only fair after the
period 1775–1783. If it hadn't been for those damned French, who knows
    what would have happened. :)

For example maybe William S. and Arthur would have been riding around
Milwaukee on one of those master strokes of German engineering a Triumph
motorcycle or a BSA instead of fiddling in their machine shop. Having, of
course, cucumber sandwiches[1] for lunch instead of a burger.

[1]With the crusts cut off. Obviously.

Yeah, I know what he meant, but I'm not sure he knew what I meant by
"where I am." Yeah, I'm on the other side of the pond, but I'm not
    _everywhere_ over here.

As for the natives, a tidbit of knowledge: there are more indian
reservations in San Diego county than any other county in the US. Many
of them are tiny, just a few acres, but they add up to ~200 square
miles.. There are 4 major tribes, totaling ~20,000 people. That's
close to a historical high. But we are _all_ immigrants, to a degree.
Humans migrated here ~20,000 years ago. There have been waves ever
since. My family came 85 years ago. But the post-WWII influx is
impressive. After the war, SD county had 250,000 people. Now it's a
bit over 3 million. I rather doubt anywhere in the UK has had that
    sort of growth.

Reminds me actually, anyone got a suggestion for a union that'd be
    appropriate for the ISP/hosting sector?

Connect as was, now Prospect. I've been a member of this particular lot
for nearly 15 years. Some of the NHS technical staff opt for it.

It does have some of the usual suspects but isn't as barking as some
others. It was fairly effective within BT and some of the top level
    management were long time members.

    Yup.

No great worries, I was looking to move back to NI early next year in
any case, as the flying-commute was starting to get to me.

Worse now it looks like we're going to get snowed in for 3 months of
    the year ;)
