For the World War 1 isti

Somme Mud by E. P. F. Lynch. Written in the 1930s ostensibly as a novel but
in reality autobiographical, it details the life of an Australian
Infantryman from 1916 through to demob. It's a cracking read, quite draining
at times and makes you wonder how anyone survived without becoming stark
    staring mad.
