No, not anything to do with my PC. I've had a pair of:
    http://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/shop/product_info.php/cPath/3_140/products_id/3893

for a couple of years now. They are still in great nick but recently and
inexplicably the right one is now chafing my ankle just below where the bone
sticks out. I can't even walk properly in them right now.

    Should I:
    a) Grin and bear it, this shit happens and the chafing will go away?
    b) Get a less pikey / better fitting[1] pair of boots?

[1] But they seemed to fit okay for the last year or two unless I just didn't
wear them enough to notice bad fitting.

Hi, have you inspected the insides for wear? Have you got a cyst on
    your ankle? ;)
Seriously, have you been riding a different bike recently as I found
the different position when changing mine caused new issues with my
    old boots.

    Insides look good.
Hmm. As it happens I have been riding the ZX9R recently having come from a
Thundercat. But I'm pretty sure that this started before the 9R entered my
life. When I'm riding it's fine, it's just walking that causes a problem.
Walk and ride boots my arse.

lol im looking for a quality pair of walk n ride boots, but that
aren't race style - something I can wear with jeans like aren't too
bulky but still up to the job. Local shops don't carry more than a
few choices, and they are all race/sports style :S

I've had a pair of these:

for about 6 years, and they've been fab. Starting to get a bit past it now,
but I'm not sure if there's any place in the UK that sells them.

Fold some bubble wrap into a palm sized "pad" and insert twixt ankle and
    boot. It's worked for me.

Too much hassle. What I don't get is why they suddenly hurt. I thought
leather was meant to soften with time. I have a theory that the inside of the
sole is wearing, meaning my foot is lower, so my ankle rubs against the joint
between leather and (hardish) rubber on the side. I might try an insole.

Well... I've recently bought a pair of these:

    https://sslhelm.net/bikersparadise-co-uk/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=78

Very comfy. I can wear them all day, no problem and I didn't have to break
    them in first.

Probably. I'm going boot-shopping tomorrow and if I find anything promising,
the offending pair is going on ebay (unless anyone here reckons they are hard
enough to buy them from me). Size 8, but feel large to this usually-size-9
    chap.
