Well given *you* replied to the thread *I* started, are you sure
you're talking about the same boots *I* bought ? 'Cos I sure as hell
am talking about the boots I bought...
No worries sweetie, I'll get back to you next month then ? (1). Faark,
you say 6K like it's a lot of Ks.
Or it could be the result of carefully comparing your claim with the
physical construction of the boot and being unable to see how anyone
could do the damage you describe in normal usage (which is exactly
    what I said).
    Reading comprehension issues ?

I HAD seen them, I posted after I'd tried them on and ridden in them
(re-read my original post again). Now it's certainly true I've only
worn them a couple of times, moving house does that to your weekends.
But I'll be out in them more now and we'll see.

    Enough what ?

    I didn't say your boots didn't fail - I said I can't see how these
boots could fail in the way you describe from the use you describe -
it makes utterly no sense. To even get that part of the boot to
contact so that it wears away requires a leg position I could only see
    happening on a drag bike.

    JL
    (1) Yeah yeah maybe the following month then :)

I would have thought 6000K commuting would be a lot harder on a boot -
all that stop / start. Touring you only put your feet down every hour
    or two...

    JL
(Although Bill h may have it right, he actually pushed his bike for
6000 k and that's why the boots wore out)

I think you've nailed it JL. 6000km touring, 1/4 mile at a time.

Hell yeah ! That would be impressive. Hell 6K in 5 days is bloody
    good.

    I've done 2000ish in a (2day) weekend on the TRX - that was ouch !! A
single 1000K day was fine-ish (did a few of those) -but 2 back to back
    hurt bad !

    JL
(700-800 is much more sustainable, although I wonder how much you
really see when you start trying to rack up big K's back to back day
    after day)

I wonder what the ETs for a (self described) "old fart on a boxer"
    are?! :)

6000km over 5 years or 6000km in 1 week? What about 6000km commuting?
The soles had started to peel away from the boots in the toe area after just
three months of use (during which I had ridden just 6,000km) . . . They are
not worn out - just badly designed - and falling to bits. On looking at
other boots I can see that the better boots have a single moulding that is
very strong in this area - near the big toe. The SIDI Vertigo boots have a
flat piece of sole bonded to the upper with none of that "wrap around"
strength of more thoughtfully designed boots. The bootmaker has explained
that rebonding won't work (for long) because of the cheap plastic used in
the uppers (that adhesives will not stick to).

Teflon coated Lorica is "cheap plastic" ? Well if so then it's the
same "cheap plastic" that most(all?) their competitors use(1) for race
boots... IMNSHO leather is better for general touring boots but the
synthetics are the dogs bollocks for race/trackday/scratching boots

But you're right in one regard, teflon does mean it will be hard to
make something stick to it (given it's there to make them easy to
clean because dirt won't stick to it).

(Sorry but it's a flashturbation site I can't give a direct link to
the info - choose English, Motorcycle, racing, then use the circle
symbol to go to vertigo, then tech specs down the bottom).

Well, I'll report back after 3months and/or 6000K then. In the
meantime your experience doesn't seem to be common

    A full season of trackdays
    http://www.webbikeworld.com/sidi-boots/#update

"The 2005 testing season" (for 2 m/c journos)
    http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Article_Page.aspx?ArticleID=2409

End user review "crashed in these boots, feet are perfect." (+13 more
    positive reviews)
    http://www.kneedraggers.com/details/Sidi_Vertigo_Boots--34-SIDI-7.html

End user comparison of 2 pairs (Dainese and Sidi)
    http://www.pnwriders.com/shwaa-gear-review/21159-dainese-axial-regular-vs-sidi-vertigo-boots.html

End user review - there were a heap like this which were unclear
whether they had been worn more than a few time (all positive) so I've
not listed them all - below is typical. Doesn't really address the
longevity or not issue except by the fact they don't raise it. Hence
    I've only posted one
    http://www.ericpuryear.com/2008/04/14/sidi-vertigo-motorcycle-boots/

And the last paragraph of this review might have a clue as to how
    yours wore out

    http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-boots/sidi/strada-evo/
"The soles are very thin and somewhat soft, providing good traction on
the pegs. ...snip... however, I'm a little disappointed in their
thickness. The benefit is a nice low-profile boot, but riders who
tend to sloppily drag their feet are going to greatly diminish the
    life of these boots."

I didn't find a single negative review - if these boots are so bad how
come the forums aren't alive with the sounds of moaning ?

BTW you do know your rights under consumer protection legislation
don't you ? If boots aren't "fit for purpose" take it to the Dept of
Fair trading (used to be consumer affairs).

I just read Ron Ayers' "Against The Wind", a travelogue of his 1995 Iron
Butt Rally. Hard to comprehend for may, but some people's idea of a
good ride is to get on a motorcycle and then ride as far as possible on
the flattest, widest, straightest piece of multilane highway that they
can find for as far [and as fast] as they can.

Yeah hard to comprehend for me, but to each their own. I'd rather
spend a day riding up and down a mountain full of 15K -35K corners
    personally.

One of the regulars (Marty maybe ?) posted a picture of a mountain in
the european / italian alps that fits the bill ! ;-) In both the
    original and Pat's sense !

    JL
(well it depends on which misreading you prefer - I don't know of any
mountains with a 15K long corner but it didn't look like 15000 corners
would have been a big exaggeration !)
