I need some new boots. I know that Daytonas are recommended and much
as I'd like to at least try a pair, I don't think I'm going to be able
to a) get somewhere that stocks them any time soon or b) really want to
    spend that much dosh.

I can get to HG fairly easily and looking at the website, would think
that the Mate Sheltex or Rhino Gore should do the trick.

Anyone got opinions on these or others?

My leather trews have built-in shin protection and so I need a boot
that is wide around the lower part of the leg and ankle in order to get
the trews inside the boot, iyswim.

I looked at all the HG boots recently. None were wide enough in the
calf. Only one appeared to be good quality (& goretex), £150 or more so
we spent £250 on new Daytona's which will last twice as long.

It took me ages to find some boots the last time and I ended up with a
pair of Gaerne something-or-others but they pretty old & scuffed and
    definitely need replacing now.

I'll have a look in HG in Slough after work tonight. If there's
nothing there that fits, I'll be running in the Sprint ST over the
weekend so a trip to GLF might be on the cards.

Looks like they've been superceded by a new one - Vertigo.

I'm not going to be able to tell until I can try some on, as it really
comes down to being able to get my leathers inside the boot.

Hopefully I'll have some time to get to a few boot stockists over the
    weekend.

Try the Female versions. Assuming your feet do not exceed the normal
    range for the ladies.

  6. Really? I shall make a point of stopping in there next time I am up for
a pair of boots then. Boots with well fitting calfs for perfectly
formed people are hard to find you know, they only seem to make them for
    fat cunts.

I've just bought some Sidi Vertigos which are comfy. Adjustable for
the calf as well, which is good given my "cycling" calfs (calves?).

I always have my trews on the outside to stop my Y-fronts flapping
    uncontrollably at speed.

I have a pair of those purchased as 'end of line' last year.
My only problem has been that the extra bulk around the toes compared
with my worn out old Prexports, and possibly the greater stiffness,
occasionally has me fluffing upward gear changes when proceeding up
hills in a timed environment. Adjusting the linkage has helped but it
still happens occasionally. By the end of the meeting I have got used to
them again, but as I usually wear new Prexport rainproof boots for
riding on the road the first run at the next hill climb often results in
    at least one baulked change.

Champ, Auvache? huh same thing really only a few years in it.

  14. Me?? I never say a thing about Sidi boots, articulated or otherwise.
Never had a pair in me life. I am yer man for singing the longevity and
comfy fit of me warm waterproof Alpinestars though.

Do remember that they can be sent for repair/refurbish. So while they
may cost a bit they can last a good while.

I got some new Daytona Evo Goretex boots from ebay for less than £250 notes.
[1] So that not that much more expensive compared to others.

[1] If you're interested, I'll dig out details of the seller.

stock Daytonas and as you can make it to Slough you can almost certainly
make it to Neasden - they are 5 minutes from the North Circular Road.
