Boring MPG Question

That has to be one of the most boring stretches of motorway [1] known
to man. It does, however, lend itself to max throttle particularly
well, if you are aware of the mobile camera hotspots.

[1] From the rider/driver's POV. From a passenger's, well, the
    scenery can be stunning.

  2. Accelerate slower. Urban riding hammers fuel consumption [1] with all
the getaways and stops. Your only way to recover some economy is to use
less of the power. Drive it just slightly faster than a car and the mpg
    will improve.

Otoh, balance out the cost/benefit and once you get fed up crawling
along at car type speeds you might be glad to sacrifice some cash and
enjoy the extra speed the bike gives you.

[1] Worst I've ever had from mine was 90 miles on a tankful, just
nipping up and down a local feeder road all weekend - worked out around
20mpg. This is the same bike that could return 60mpg if held at 60mph.

I'm thinking "Fucking Jesus wept, is that all you're getting". Round town
and with the odd 30 mile belt up the motorway I EASILY get 150 miles from a
    tankful from my Zed.

It's all relative. You, on your gixxer, always needed to stop for fuel
before me on mine. Remember looking for a petrol station in that town
on the Luxembourg border. Which also seems to suggest that you were
using more than Mike, which is even more surprising, given the size of
    his... luggage.

Heh. I've tried being dull and keeping throttle movements to a
minimum and riding "sensibly". Didn't seem to make a lot of
    difference....

One thing I have noticed is that the slight hesitation in the fuelling
off idle mean that you tend to need to gas it to get it moving. That
    probably doesn't help

That was based on a dull week with no non-urban riding at all.

It's a very racist comment though and why most black men can't get jobs in
the Porn industry, Mandingo having set a rather impossible bar!

  12. Maybe it's just 'one of those bikes'. Some bikes don't seem to vary
their consumption much at all, whether pushing on a bit or bimbling
along. My XS750 was like that - 47/48mpg no matter how I rode it. That
wasn't used in urban traffic much though.

? The 120 miles per tank is entirely on urban rush hour riding. With
"normal" riding so far I've managed about 140-150 on a tank.

3.7 gallons. Aye, 150/tank is fine. 32mpg on the urban cycle is just
a bit less than expected. But like I say, the last commute bike was
doing >60mpg so it's partly just the shock

I never use my 10R for commuting but even with a full Akrapovic system
and the fact that it's been re-mapped with more BHP as the sole
intention I struggle to get the fuel consumption down to the low
thirties per gallon. It might be worth you seeing if you can pick up a
PC111 cheap on Ebay and play with the fuelling a bit to see if you can
    improve things.

Jeez. Mine rarely got up to forty. The fact that it was utterly
shagged may have had something to do with it.
