They're pretty good at controlling their pricing ain't they?

I've been thinking about getting a pair of their noise-cancelling
jobbies (QC3 or QC15). No-one seems to discount them, even though they
are quite a bit cheaper in the US.

Has anyone tried their outlet centres - eg Bicester - do they offer
    better pricing there?

Thanks - I've e-mailed the Bicester store (not too far from me) so I'll
see what they come back with first.

Well they are fooling a lot of people then. Most of the reviews I've
read they come out top or nearly top. I've had a listen to them several
    times and I like them.

  10. I bought a set of QC3's in the States when I was traveling a lot.
Bloody godsend, made the difference between sleeping on a flight or not.

They came from the Bose store in an outlet mall, and the price was the
same as normal, but I got an extra bettery in the kit. I was just happy
to be paying USD instead of GBP, as the exchange rate was very
    favourable then.

I've had a pair of Bose QCs and yet I prefer the Sennheiser PCX450
headphones. They're more robust, have 'talkthrough' that allows you to have
a conversation with the cabin crew without taking them off (or shouting) and
they still work as headphones if the batteries go flat.

They're cheaper too. I can't tell the difference in sound quality. The
downside is that they're bulkier than the QC3s.

The Bose QC headphones I had broke because the construction is relatively
    flimsy.

That's good to know thanks. I've just been looking at the Sennheisers -
    will give them a try.

Also in the frame are those etymotic in ear types, although I'm not
convinced they'd be as comfortable on a long flight.

I was at a tip top TV emporium this weekend to see a man about a job. Turns
out this bloke is the director of the company and they sell "slightly non
budget" telly's. Prices of around 10 grand for starters and going up. Sound
systems too and one he demonstrated was a Sony system which was absolute
crap, using electrostatic speakers (anout 4mm thick, top to bottom). These
ran at around 7 grand a pair anbd they really *are* shite.

On another "wall" he had Shure equipment which pissed all over the Sony
stuff and at a tenth the price. He had some Bose speakers too, but they were
actually hidden in the corridor used to access the toilets.

Personally, I thought that was the perfect place for them. Almost.

Speaker choice is always a very personal thing and as all of us have
different idea's of what sounds good, is there really a best and worst? If
you have a problem with hearing high frequencies, the Sony system would be
fucking magic but if you don't, you'll find them too treble-ey and
conversely, if you can't hear bass frequencies well, then stop going to
    brass band gigs.

  16. I found that wearing in the ear phone on longhaul played some sort of
havoc with my equalisation. On arrival it took me much longer to
equalise and I hate that sounds like you're underwater feeling.

Switching to on the ears (the QC3's) made an instant difference. On the
    next flight, iyswim.

Ok, define crap. I have *my* idea of crap, but it's probably not the same as
    yours.

If you want the full Bose effect, just turn your speakers round to face
    the wall.
    Instant Bose 901's!

  19. I don't have data, but I'd second the motion. From my perspective
they've built up a very good brand name but their gear doesn't come up
to it I reckon. I spent a fortune on a Bose sound system in my car a
few years back and had it pulled out and replaced a couple of months
    later.

Their satellite/subwoofer home systems lack mid-range and sound like
somene has turned a loudness control flat out.

I have yet to hear a Bose system (apart from their concert PA systems
and even then there are much better) that sounds any good. They a
clean and clear and stylish but their frequency curve sound bloody
    awful.

  20. The standard Ipod buds aer shite. It took me a while to get an Ipod,
but got one a few years back. I went back to the Mac shop and asked
whether they had any better buds. The guy looked around and said
quietly "They are crap, and no we don't have decent ones, they don't
make them. Head up the street to the Sony shop">

I did and bought a pair of Sony in-ear monitors (which cost more than
the Ipod) and they are great. I managed to lose the Ipod and haven't
got round to replacing it, but still have the monitors and use them
with my netbook and stuff like that.
