Just because you and Beav and a few others can't understand why people
are bothered by poorly formatted, wrongly attributed and unsnipped
posts doesn't mean that those who complain are 'prickly' to do so.

Because I said that your attributions were up to shit or because I
find it hard to understand why when someone asks for replies by email
    they get them via facebook?

No. I was implying that you like to use facebook.
I take the piss out of people for using facebook because it's a joke.
How can I take it seriously when you get people you've never met
sending you messages wanting to be your friend?

That happened because I take the care to trim posts and edit them to get rid
of the dross, I'm human, humans aren't perfect. Meh.
I wasn't commenting on that, I just explained how, unless you've turned off
email notification, sending a PM via Facebook will send an email to someone.

    Fair enough.

I think the last time I updated my FB profile or used it for anything was a
    week or two ago.

I like using it as a substitute for email because as well as talking to them
you can see what that person looks like, read about them, see their photos
and what interests they have. But I'm not someone who must update their
status every half hour and avidly reads every post going on the iPhone
    Facebook app.

What's wrong with following a simple instruction like "Send emails to
"?. That way you know you're almost guaranteed to get the
    message to whoever requires it.

  8. A proportion of some 350 millions others might not agree.
I can't say I've had that happen much, once perhaps. On the other hand,
it is quite a nice tool to use for keeping in touch with the people I
know that are scattered throughout various timezones across the planet.

Obviously the clique is much smaller and more local, so you probably
    wouldn't understand.

    I'm very pleased for them.
If I want to contact someone I either phone them, email them or drop
them a text. It keeps things a lot easier and (going back to the
original point) it means I don't get confused and reply to invites on
    facebook rather than by email.
I knew there was something I was missing.

  11. Sure, I do that too, although I tend to skype if it's overseas.
    and this.
but rarely this. In fact, I don't really get why people seem to have
entire conversations through real time SMS'ing.
    Not really.
Well, as far as I can tell, I haven't done that either. In fact, only
    one person has.
    HTH.

I tend to send a message if I think the other person might not be able
to take the call or if it's a simple home by 6pm sort of thing. I
suppose the reason some people have conversations using sms is that if
they've got unlimited free messages it's cheaper than making a phone
    call.
No matter how I look at it I can't think of an easier way to contact
someone apart from by talking to them face to face.
I don't think I've actually claimed any more than one person did.
    It didn't.

Their friend-finding algorithms are a bit daft in places.
Like assuming that I will ever have even met anyone who did a UNISA
course in the same year as me. "You were at UNISA with xxxxxxx".
Yea. Nobody attends UNISA, because it is the SA equivalent of OU.

  14. **** that.
When FTF (add it to your list) isn't possible and telephone isn't
convenient, I don't think it makes any difference which method of
    electronic written communication is used.

A message through facebook, or an email, are effectively the same thing.

You did imply that all facebook users fall into the category of people
that would do such a thing.
    NMP.

I think we've all had that particular one.
One thing I've noticed is that Facebook is great for keeping in touch
with people you already know, whereas Twitter is great for discovering
    new people.

  16. The only stuff I see from Twitter, since I binned my account, is those
that force their Twitter comments about trash television into their
    Facebook feeds.

You'll find a little button next to each one with a 'Hide' option. Feel
    free to use it.
