I don't know if you are being obtuse or narky.
My point is rather that many of us used to treat France as a private
racetrack and the Froggies didn't bother us or seem to mind, as long as
    you didn't race through villages.
Now speeding is a big public issue in France and the consequences of
capture at eek speed are worse than in the UK.
How much effort French Plod are putting into it I don't pretend to know.
What I do know is I take as much care watching out in France as I do in
the UK now. Which is something of a change in behaviour.

  8. I love that road, Bargemon - Corps - Gap - Grenoble - did it only two weeks
    ago.

The rest of the crew I was with decided to Autoroute it to Grenoble where we
had a Kyriad[1] booked but I'll always take the N85 over the Autoroute any
    day.

    Cheers - Dave.B

    [1] - http://www.kyriad-grenoble-nord-le-fontanil.fr/en/index.aspx - Not
somewhere you would go on holiday, but one of those perfect stopover travel
hotels if you're en route somewhere. Next to an Autoroute exit, double
glazing, air con and an excellent outdoor pool.

I saw three French plod on the Col de Bonhomme between Colmar & St Dié just
    a few days ago.

They were riding FJR1300s[1][2][3] very quickly towards me. Next thing they
had turned around and came past me as I ascended the southern side of the
Col. When I got to the café at the summit they were in the car park
    smoking.

I don't think they were interested in catching speeders. Just having a
blast at stupid speeds on their shiny new Jap bikes, on what was a very
    pleasant Sunday afternoon.

[1] painted white, rather than the more familiar blue
[2] so perhaps a bit more competitive than the BMWs you mentioned above
[3] my local plod has replaced their wobbly Pans with FJRs too.
