BOSM weather

  1. In uk.rec.motorcycles, dwb amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom:
Heh, shows what I know then.

I'd go on my bike without a second thought but with no back end on it I
get a foot wide layer of slurry down my back in anything more than a
damp road. Not only that but the slurry runs down my back and I end up
sitting in it. Not a huge problem but having somewhere to dry my jacket
    out is the biggest challenge.

Does anyone have a for sale board they can bring to the BOSM? A
makeshift rear mud flap is easy to make and should last for 200 motorway
    miles.

I'd rather go on my bike it has to be said.

Well, I'm bringing my bike whatever the weather does. I've not struggled
to get the thing up and working, only to leave it behind when things get
    wet of chilly.

Near summary but far, far too optimistic.

    wisdom:
I would've happily (well, perhaps not happily) gone on my bike but now I
have the choice and I'm losing my hair (and developing a belly), I think
I'll resign myself to the fact I like to be comfortable when travelling.

If I still had my orange van I think I would've gone on the bike as the
noise the thing made had the novelty of that wearing off very quickly.

Pity my bike does around half the mpg the van used to mind.

Conversely, my car does less than half the mpg my bike does.

180 miles on 40 quids worth of petrol. Jesus H.

That's almost as bad as mine.

380 miles to fifty quid and only around 30 miles of that was in town. I
reckon it does about 15-18mpg in the stop-start stuff.

I get about 120 miles to fifteen quid's worth on the bike and that's
being "careful" by cruising at around 90mph.

    Dreadful.

  9. I'm going to watch horses dancing in the local bullring. And a bit of
Flamenco. If it snows there, I'll send each and every one of you 10 euros.

It's a pug 306, ffs. Admittedly I was thrashing the arse off it (115mph
from Swindon to Gloucester) but it manages 22mpg or so at the best of
    times.
Sounds like my bandit. 95 miles to reserve.

Why not borrow a 9R, then you could warm your hands on the "smoking
    brakes".

500-600 miles from 40 quid in mine, depending on if it's driven quick
or medium. I've not gone for slow yet.
Ah, now the bike's more like 120 to reserve.

That's shit. Even our 3l gets better than that. And all mostly in London.

The only thing I really miss about the diesel.
It'll be interesting to see how much it does up the M1 on Saturday. I
can fill it up right before going on the motorway and can keep a steady
hand until it runs out or I get scared and fill it up. I've never done a
"wet to dry run" on it before.

It's better around town. I tend to have it floored when on the open
road, and revving a 2 litre lump towards the redline non-stop for an
hour or two tends to make it drink unleaded like lemonade.

If it had a 6th gear it'd be a different matter entirely.
