Seriously, +2C sounds almost tropical compared to recent BOSMs.

I'll knock one out in the tent. Will that do?

I'll bet your daughter is so glad she's not sharing a tent with you
    this time round.

I've warned her to go easy on the geezer with the dodgy ticker.

Heh, I was expecting that line from Platy, he's definitely some sort of
    SOB-human cyborg.

+2C doesn't bother me - some forecasts still have it as heavy rain at
the weekend mind (not so much in Derby, but on the way up).

I have taken tomorrow off[1] to fettle the bike as appropriate (I am
still perfectly in favour of cable tying up the sidestand) but I'll
decide on Saturday lunchtime whether I'm going or not, based on what
the weather is actually doing. I forget how long it takes to get
there. It'd be about 2.5 hours just up the M1, but I'm fucked if I'm
    doing that.

It took me three hours or so taking a reasonably scenic route last time.
I don't really care how long it takes me to get there so long as there's
still enough daylight to put the tent up.

**** no, no way would I want to arrive after dark.

    and the missing footnote:

    [1] "working from home".

Seeing as I retreated early from the continent I might pay a flying
visit. The forecast for Sunday isn't too bad at the moment.
Having gone last year on a sports 125 with a tent and a sleeping bag
lashed on I think I'll give a night under canvas a miss though.

Oh. We're not allowed to do that on Mondays or Fridays, ostensibly
because it means we're all in the office two days a week to allow for
meetings, but really because the boss seems to think it's harder to
slack off in the office than it is at home.

Which just goes to show what he knows. Psyche!

    that would suck.
well, exactly. I'm perfectly capable of showing up at 09:00 and
leaving at 18:00 and not having done a scrap of meaningful "work" in
between. Then again, my job is basically just attending meetings,
answering emails and "thinking about stuff", so it's not like I
actually have much "work" to do. In fact, when I'm "working from
home", I'll quite often produce more tangible output than when in the
    office.

I don't actually mind sleeping in a tent in the rain. It's the packing
it up in the rain and riding 150 miles home in the rain that doesn't
    appeal.

    In communiqué
Agreed, though it's less than half that distance for me. Though if there
is one thing worse than packing up a tent in the rain, it's having to
pitch it in the dark, during a gale and heavy rain after a long wet
ride. I gave that sort of enjoyment up many years ago.

I drive Word, Excel and Visio for a living and, if I need to get to any
servers, I have to do it via SSL-VPN even if I'm in the office.

So the only difference between home and office is at home the seating's
better (sofa vs Aeron chair) and the network connection's faster.

The riding bit I can handle - three cheers for head-to-toe Gore-Tex -
but packing up a tent in the pissing rain isn't one of life's pleasures.

    You have a Gore-Tex helmet?
My tent's shit, and cost me (I think) £25, if I do go (and it's still
an "if") and it's pissing down in the morning, I'd be tempted to throw
    it in the bin.

What's this "get to servers" thing? That's sounds too much like
    sysadmin to me.

The small Khyam dome jobs are pretty quick and pack up reasonably small,
but I only have access to a large 2/3 person version. My ancient
Lichfield Viper ridge tent could be worse TBF, as you pitch the outer
first and then hang the inner inside thus keeping it reasonably dry.
Still not my idea of fun grovelling about still encased in Goretex
    though.
