We've just been sat in the pub discussing the dates and it looks like
someone has made a big mistake by deciding to pull the plug on a
nuclear power station at the same time as the BOSM. I'll find a way
round it closer to the date but I'm supposed to be supervising some
    turbine modifications over that period.

There's no chance of me working there unless I get a substantial pay
rise. By substantial I mean about double what I'm getting now.

I'm going to be at Heysham when the BOSM is on but I reckon I can do
Heysham to Hulland Ward in about 2 hours on the bike so I'll still be
    able to go.

Well if you have the ZX10 power mods done by then your attendance will
    be essential

It's essential anyway because we've booked a room and I want to get
    pissed with the rabble.

Power mods may well be done by then, in fact I'll be a bit pissed off
    if they aren't/

    Hotel?
    or guest house??

Can't make it now anyway. I remembered when I saw the date, that it's my WA
and SWMBO must come first. Well at least for one day of the year ;o)

    Have a good'un.

I spent many hours in, on and around B & W boilers when I were a lad
when I worked for the power company.

Used to have Edwin Danks, and Allen Ygnis (the patented 'turning flame'
boiler) on our patch years ago.

I also used to have to help doing smoke tests on boilers when I was a
student. One day I was up a ladder inserting a thermometer in to the
back end of an oil-fired super-economic somewhere. Suddenly, as the
engineer put it on to high-fire, there was an awesome rumbling, the
thermometer shot out, and the whole thing started shaking. I quickly
climbed back down to find my supervisor and the engineer had scarpered.
As I got out of the boiler house they appeared somewhat sheepishly. "We
have been talking about getting hard hats", I quipped (this was a long.
long time ago in HSW terms). "If that had let go, a harp would be more
    use", cackled the engineer.
