Was quite good fun. As usual, the journey up threatened to be wet 'n nasty, but wasn't until after the tents were pitched. Beer was excellent, as usual, as was the food. Unfortunately the shite weather this morning put paid to any CIHAGM action, so we buggered off smartish after brekkers. Journey back was damp and murky, but luckily we didn't have any real rain to speak of. We both agreed that we'd got off lightly in this regard. So, a big eythangewe to the DFV and the hosts. Seconded. Filled up at the place just down the road and didn't even need a furher piss stop. New upward change strategy (once warmed up, not on way to garage) of revving until the needle appeared well in sight in the small segment of tacho not obscured by the 'hug a tank bag' was put to increasing use. I now declare the re-plated bore and piston run in. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest * 2 Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
Hah, top man. We filled up at Lichfield, then once on the M42 joined the M40 and nailed it all the way back to Bicester. Once home the boy was able to fully express the joy of a long journey on a sprots bike. Other than a slightly numb arse I was still pretty limber. That GFR is a remarkable little beast. Certainly was. Mrs Courier enjoyed it very much too and even said most of you were alright (strange woman) Seconded, thanks one and all. Top quality as always. Indeedy. Here's to the next one.
Indeed I found her very strange. Attractive, well balanced normal lady. WTF does she see in you? Woo hoo -- Dan L Too much time to think, too little to do. http://thebikeshed.spaces.live.com/ 1996 Kawasaki ZR1100 Zephyr BOTAFOT #140 (KotL 2005/6/7) X-FOT#000 DIAABTCOD #26 BOMB#18 (slow) OMF#11

I was travelling back from parts southern, so I had a call round to find out if anyone was still about should I pop in. After I found out that Bonwick was already home I assumed the rest of you would've fucked off as well.
What he said (non-snipping fully intended, it deserves repetition) Apologies to all and sundry for my full-on spamming, and thanks for making my brother welcome too. NP - He's a nice bloke. Oh. The ring. I'd forgotten about that! flyingvee[at]btopenworld[dot]com That should get to me. Dave
Thanks Oggy, I've never ridden an RGV250 before. Incredibly light fast steering and a loony power band. It isn't bad at lower revs, in the right gear it pulls sufficiently from 5k to make riding in traffic easy. Completely different in every way from the RD400. The front brake was interesting on wet twisty roads, needing some gentle feathering to get it working then gradual building up of pressure. The engine feels and sounds lovely and tight. Deffo deserves the chokes sorting and a full brake service.
Steve Parry brought some rather tasty kit with him don't you think? fnar. The K1200GT is an absolute stormer. Bit pricey but it has taken them 12 years to come up with a worthy successor to the 1100LT. Fancy front ends are out of place on a sprotbike but for a fully laden tourer with 167bhp Mr Hossack would be righly proud. What is the fuel consumption like?
Yeah, by about half twelve I figured the drizzle wasn't going to get any better, the bike wasn't going to start itself and I wasn't getting any closer to home by sitting in the bar. Bike didn't miss a beat on the journey home, but it's fucking terrible for motorways. Doing any kind of sensible speed means either not riding in top gear or winding the throttle open to compensate for the lack of power; The lowest cruising speed it can do in top is 90, but that depends on light traffic. So I went flat out down the A5 instead and almost ran out of petrol between MK and Aylesbury. Bah. Yeah, the front brakes are pretty horrible, to the extent that they remind me of the 7R before I swapped the calipers, but it's the starting that really lets it down. Fired up first kick when I left though, which was a pleasant surprise.
