Heh, really glad you made it Nick, you seem to ride at my pace too, which is a bonus as I usually end up bringing up the rear. -- Dan L (Oldbloke) My bike 1996 Kawasaki ZR1100 Zephyr M'boy's bike 2003 Honda NSR125R (Going) Spare Bike 1990 Suzuki TS50X (Patio Ornament) BOTAFOT #140 (KotL 2005), X-FOT#000, DIAABTCOD #26, BOMB#18 (slow)
Heh, thought that'd raise a few titters -- Dan L (Oldbloke) My bike 1996 Kawasaki ZR1100 Zephyr M'boy's bike 2003 Honda NSR125R (Going) Spare Bike 1990 Suzuki TS50X (Patio Ornament) BOTAFOT #140 (KotL 2005), X-FOT#000, DIAABTCOD #26, BOMB#18 (slow)
A bit fucking expensive on dial-up I'd have thought then -- Dan L (Oldbloke) My bike 1996 Kawasaki ZR1100 Zephyr M'boy's bike 2003 Honda NSR125R (Going) Spare Bike 1990 Suzuki TS50X (Patio Ornament) BOTAFOT #140 (KotL 2005), X-FOT#000, DIAABTCOD #26, BOMB#18 (slow)
Daz and Bonners I think you're right - Dan and I, it's probably only 50'ish [1]and your bike is a lot lighter than either of ours I suspect. [1] Strom is +- 100 bhp , 210kgs + me (75kg). Ta - it also means an insurance renewal That would be telling.
<smug> I didn't notice the cold, other than via the SCCS [1] - heated grips and two fleeces + wind stopper top rock [1] Suzuki Crotch Cooling System
I'm not so sure as it appears to have become oil-phobic and is chucking it out the catch tank overflow. It's always done this at high revs over extended time but it's now doing it at lower speeds and shorter periods. The flat out, flat on the tank run from Brighton - Aylesbury in a little over an hour and a bit needed a full litre (in a 3l capacity sump) just to get it on the bottom of the dipstick. It chucked a load out on the way back and I wasn't even caning it. Just sat at 90 ish. Investigations are required.
BHP is 50ish on the ER-5, it weighs 179Kg + me (114Kg) I was pleased that even when I had SeanH from Brighton go pillion on it for an extended hoon a week or two ago it still managed to get to 100mph without issue. Hopefully cheaper!
Well the only cure known for that is high compression forged pistons and 40mm valves in a ported head.
Guzzi's have a reputation for being heavy breathers and the breather system not being quite up to the job. However, mine has the large breather box and sump extension (same oil, greater volume of air in the crankcase) so shouldn't suffer from it. I've always been a bit suspicious of my dipstick as it doesn't have the standard type - I may be unknowingly overfilling although I don't think so as an oil change seems about right on the stick IYSWIM - but what's it's been throwing out is more than a bit of overfilling. I'll get my hands on a standard deep sump dipstick to prove this one way or another. It's certainly been susceptible to blowing it out in the time I've had the bike (it now has at least 100,000 miles on it) but I really need to do something about it. If I can't flat stick it for hours at a time it's not much use. Happily replacement HC piston ass. (and I assume these include rings) are £29 each. Bores are Nickasil so should be ok. I'll speak to Gary at Wessons to discuss testing the crankcase pressure.
That needed to be played with an absolutely straight bat. I think you might *just* have got away with it.
