That's an engine case cover and it's that one that bears the scars of
the rat/bus interface at Kensington Park Road.

I'm loathed to spray over that tbh.

 

Quite right - "Chicks dig scars". But you should definitely spray, at
the very least, some dirty engine oil on the new shiny bit.
