Had an uneventful trip back from Adelaide, picked up the bike a 1975 BMW
R75/6 at 11:00am and rode to Broken Hill on Thursday, got into town at
4:30pm a leisurely 511 kilometres in 5 ½ hours, no point in pressing on as
the next town worth staying overnight was Cobar 450 kilometres east (I tend
to avoid staying overnight in Wilcannia). A rather late 7:30 start led to a
few hours night time riding to land in Tamworth some 12 hours later covering
1,030 kilometres on day 2, got upgraded to the Spa Suite as no others were
available and after 12 hours on a 32 year old saddle and no fairing for
protection the spa was very welcome. A full 9 hours sleep saw an early 6:00
am start for the magnificent run up the New England Highway heading for Home
(Brisbane) and pulled into the driveway at 2:00 pm after a number of more
extended meal and fuel stops, the padding on that 32 year old saddle was
packing down rather quickly and my recovery rate was extending from 10
minute fuel stops to 30 minute meal breaks. 573 kilometres day 3 and a total
of 2,114 kilometres in 25 ½ hours for the total trip.

The bike in unrestored original condition has 105,000 kilometres on it and
did not miss a beat; it would hold 140 kph all day but was happiest at 120
as the vibration was least at this speed. No oil leaks, no chain to lube,
18 kilometres per litre fuel consumption a good H4 headlight making night
riding possible and nothing fell off or broke.

I will keep the bike in basically the same condition it is now, with the
exception of some new grips as the originals had worn smooth and I had to
use some cloth tape to give them some grip, a new set of footpeg rubbers to
pass roadworthy and a tidy up. The Michelin Macadam tyres are really good
and although the front is now near the wear indicators they performed very
    well.

Pretty impressive. But are you sure it wasn't your own mumble-de-mumble
year old saddle that was the problem? :)

I am sure that has a lot to do with it, now if I had a girlie padded saddle
like Bikerbetty I would be a lot more comfortable.

I only fall on motorcycles, not off them.

How can you put 'top of the line' and 380 in the same sentence? The 380 is
just bad taste gone wrong. They had a car that didn't sell so they gave it a
Merky-Benz type model number, redesigned to boot to look like a P76, and
then wondered why nobody bought it. Well Duhh!
