I wonder if Chip Foose will go to the funeral?

    To dance on the grave?

I remember seeing an older episode of his TV show on Discovery a few
weeks ago in Amsterdam and his paint guy was complaining how he was
always supposed to rush and do a good enough job instead of the best job
he could do. Oh, and that he had a job offer from Chip Foose...

I recall mentioning to Ann that I'd be mightly miffed if I paid ~100k US
for a hot rod with a good enough paint job when I read yesterday that he
was charging people something like half a million for one.

That always surprises me about that lot, and the Orange Country
    Chopper mob.

After seeing the show, I'd never spend 100k on a bike from them after
the rush they go through to build them.

Well, if you read certain chopper mags in the US (ie, not the 'glossy'
ones), OCC has a certain "reputation".
Especially because you could get the impression that you can assemble a
similar bike from the Paughco and S&S cattle dogs for a heck of a lot
less moolah, if that's what you want. OK, that's not true for the
high-end proper custom bikes but a lot of what they do seems to be
centred around using modified off-the-shelf components.

Me too, but purely for comedy values, as with American Chopper.

As Timo pointed out up there ^^, once you've seen the show you'd
never part with any cash for their services.

Duuno which version, but the one on the show a couple of weeks
ago looked a bit fit, and had some large assets as well.

I got the impression that Coddington didn't like Foose, but I've heard
nothing to suggest that Foose felt the same way. Apart from him stealing
members of Coddington's crew whenever he can.
Charlie, and I think the car was working on was the "Woodie" when he said
that. He eventually went working for Foose and apparently still is though.
It's the 8 weeks it takes to build one that takes all the money :)

All bought and paid for. By Coddington, no doubt.

His first wife is a disaster area that could use some surgery for real
    though.

She looks like she's permanently got something stuck up her arse.

Her plastic surgeon is obviously as professional as some of the numpties
that Cardington had working for him.

I got the impression that they drove people very hard and when they
walked, both Boyd and that workshop manager ogre of his seem to either
put them into the "they weren't that good anyway" bin or took it as a
personal insult. And I don't think Foose feel into the 'not that good
    anyway' category.
Indeed. Actually stealing may be too much work, you just waylay them on
the way out after they chucked in the job.
Yup, it was the woody. Unfortunately I didn't get to see the third part
of the show where they hopefully finish the thing. Mind you, I think a
lot of his creations were, well, very creative but a bit OTT. And I like
hot rods, but like OCC choppers and Ness's bikes (which are probably a
less insulting comparison) I don't really like the complete OTT ones
    they're turning out these days.
Probably, but then again apart from the Discovery stuff I'd be surprised
if he didn't build several in parallel. And if you look at the number of
people working on them (what? five to six?) and my rough assumption that
even at that level you're not going to get rich as a mechanic/panel
beater/painter/upholsterer, then I'd say one car paid for the wages and
another one or two for the overheads.

And when you consider that D'erWayne isn't actually a skilled ANYTHING (he
was the driver running around for parts when he first started there) he's
got more mouth than a cow's got ****.
But first you dangle a Foosey carrot. He got Mike (the guy who fucked his
facial nerves up when he rolled one of Boddingtons "Hot-Rods" at the salt
flats) like that and then got Charlie to think about leaving. I think he'd
done it with a few others over the years too.
Well he did get the woody finished and shipped to Hawaii (and on time), but
by that time Charlie had obviously had enough, so Coddington painted the
next car and then he got the Swede (Bernt) in along with another bloke who
was a past emloyee of the firm. So the OTT examples are still being churned
    out in true "Boydster" stylee.
For a whole year too I'd say.

I suspect you may be udderly right on that one. I didn't know about the
driver bit but that would explain why you never see him do anything but
trying to chuck his toys even further out of his pram than before.
Ouch. Going very fast *is* dangerous, though. But I don't think I'd
wanted Boyd to build a race car for me.
Wouldn't surprise me - Boyd seemed to attract good people and then they
    legged sooner rather than later.

Charlie seemed to be massively pissed off - not a surprise, given that
they all seemed to live at the shop.

I think I saw the episode you refer to one a while back - he actually
seemed to be an OK painter. Not quite in the same league as the mate[1]
of Arlen Ness who helped out with paint on his bike during the
Arlen/Cory Ness buildoff, but OK. Mind you, probably not $500k ok.

Maybe I shouldn't pack my bags and post to UKRM at the same time, but
that's what I tried to suggest.

[1] Jon Kosmoski, if you haven't seen that episode. Looks like he knows
a thing or two about painting cars and bikes (and yes, I know who he
    is).

There was an episode some time back where he was "featured" and his history
with the firm was outlined. Probably one of the most boring episodes come to
    think.
Yeah, a Coddington sacked him for designing a wheel rim for Foose.
Yeah, he seemed to have an ability to push his employees to their limits.
I thought Coddingtons idea of "loyalty" was a bit one sided, particularly
when it came to time on the job.
I believe that Coddington used to paint all his "creations" but that'd be a
long time ago when a creation took a year or more and they weren't being
outed at half a mill apiece.
    I knew that. :)
Not seen that one, but I'll look out for it. If it's a newish one it'll be
on RealTime and if it's an older one, it'll turn up on Turbo.
