    Heh.

For the record, though, my car -- tuned 1.8l turbo'd, intercooled, 20V 4
cylinder Teutonic miracle -- is rated at 210PS. The manufacturers, VAG
group, recommend 98 octane "or better" for full performance. As it is,
thanks to some SPS shenanigans, my ickle Audi is turning out around
265PS. Bung anything less than 98 RON go-juice in it and it gets most
upset. No fuel-related issues or problems with it in nearly 60k miles.
    Optimax rocks for this vehicle.

That's how I managed to fill my company van with unleaded by mistake.
I didn't bother moaning to BP about it because I just put it down to
    operator idiocy.

BP have historically used the wrong colours for their pumps - even to
using green for diesel and black for unleaded when it first appeared,
while everybody else was the other way around.

One shouldn't assume that everyone else follows the same standards...

Wik scribbled on the back of a napkin:
Similar "issue" here for Japanese grandpamobiles that somehow ended up
with a rather naughty engine in them...

No they shouldn't. But surely BP have to be really stupid to make their
pumps different to everyone else's. Particularly where they use the same
colours but in a different sequence.

My experience of using the wrong fuel was a series of events leading
to the act of stupidity. I was tired after being on the road from 5am
until I filled the van at about 4pm, I'd parked with the pump on the
'wrong' side of the van to avoid queuing, I just grabbed the normal
colour hose and lobbed in 3/4 of a tank full then drove off. I only
noticed the problem about 25 miles later when the van started to
misfire a bit so I picked the receipt up from where I'd slung it and
had a look at exactly what I'd put in. Shit happens.

My point. The general public needs protecting from its own stupidity at
    times :)

  11. The nice thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from!
