Brake Pads - Opinions on Ferodo?

    As the CBR400RR needed a new caliper, I need to get a
    full set of new pads for it.

    Hunting around the 'bay, the choice seems to be EBC (spit),
    Gold Fren, Armstrong or some very cheap Ferodo pads.

    As this is a seller rather than a keeper, I don't really
    give a shit what's going into it as I won't be riding it,
    but I want to put something semi-decent (but not expensive)
    into it. My choice would be CLs but they're 45 quid per
    caliper for A3s, so about 4x what I want to pay.

    What say the Font?

    Well regarded by many R-GS riders. An independent service bod in that
    Londond started offering them as an alternative to OE and the word rapidly
    spread.

    I'll be fitting a set later this year as they are a lot cheaper than OE

    It's the Platinum ones I've seen for £11.99 a caliper.
    As long as they actually stop and are not EBC, I'll be happy!

    anything that can stop an R1150GS, an average sized rider (say BMI 30) plus
    maybe a pillion, luggage and the contents of the Touratech catalogue has to
    be pretty effective

    I could have guessed that - but did you read wessie's spec up there? I
    reckon your foot would have to try pretty hard, and would ultimately
    lose, tbh. A javelin, on the other hand, is expendable and doesn't
    induce screaming agony as it's ripped in half by the supertanker-like
    inertia of a fully-loaded GS.

    I tried Ferodo pads on my 9R and they were fucking shite. I took them
    out and went back to EBC HH pads after about 1500 miles.

    Ok for a seller though..

    I shoved some on the RR & they are loads better than LR pads.

    Well, that's the key: (a) I'm not keeping it, and (b) they're
    very cheap, and (c) they're not EBC. So I think Ferodo it is.

    I put Mintex in the Bimmer because they were the most expensive
    make I could find on ebay that I'd heard of ... a whole £18 for
    a front SET of pads that were over an inch thick, ffs! The matching
    rear set were £13.

    It must be down to market scale that makes them so cheap.

    What's the issue with EBC? I've used them on 2 bikes now and they were
    better than oem, and despite ukrm myth, didn't have any negative
    impact on the discs.

    Well, I had an experience with a set of EBC Greens in the RF900: I
    bought 'em 'cos they were cheap, and I assumed that as they were a
    known make that there wouldn't be a problem with 'em. However, giving
    it large past a line of ukrmers on a rideout and then slowing for a
    sharpish corner was beyond them - taking the RF plus me from 160ish to
    a desired 60 wasn't going to happen, as there was a fuckload of
    vibration, an 'orrible noise and precious little in the way of
    retardation going on.

    Hurled it on its ear and gassed it and managed to make it, albeit on a
    rather wide line, only to be looking at a tighter than 90 corner 50m in
    front. Ignoring the tortured noises, clouds of dust and stench of
    cooking ferodo got the plot down to 40ish from 90ish and the corner was
    negotiated, albeit with the imposition of a permanent seat pucker.

    Fair enough, I've not had a real problem with HH pads, but I was
    appalled that a major player would issue pads in a size appropriate for
    a fast(ish) bike that patently are not up to the job. Therefore I will
    not trust them again. CLs for me, now.

    CL, Vesrah or original for me every time

    My CBR has genuine Honda pads and for a standard bike with standard
    equipment pads and just a set of braided lines, the braking is
    astounding.

    Oh those EBC non HH pads are awful shite, agreed. Though the shiny copper
    ones are the DB IMHO.

    As for Ferodo, well Motorworks once *gave* me a set of them for a K as I had
    dropped a wedge. Silvery grey organic types. I rode off with them in on the
    day. I stopped past Manc and put the old worn OEM's back in.
