Yep, got that too. SWMBO has anyway. When the Big Red Merc died, they
got a local bloke to tow the Merc the few miles home. He charged her
£50-something which was promptly paid back my autoaid once she'd
    filled in the paperwork.

Really old-fashioned company judging from the paperwork they send you.
You can only join by phone - their website is just a form to fill in
your details and get them to call you! IMO there are loads of
insurance companies in the dark ages like this. Like the one I use for
Tenants Contents Insurance. Great for renting, it covers you not only
for if you get burgled or stuff gets damaged, it also covers up to
£1million damage to the landlord's property, so if they try and screw
you over on the deposit when you move out, you just say "give me my
deposit and claim it on my insurance" as normally the landlords are
whingeing about stupid stuff which is wear and tear, just to screw an
extra few quid out of you and the insurance company takes none of that
    crap :)

That's true. I had Barclays Graduate Additions years ago and that gave
me comprehensive RAC and mobile phone insurance plus loads of other
crap you don't use for a fiver a month. Mobile insurance alone costs
that. I paid an extra few quid for a euro trip and it was no hassle.

we have direct line (was originally green flag).

the car is covered as the policy and then both Andy & I have 'personal
cover' added on which covers us in any vehicle.

There's a handy screenscraper type jobbie here:

    http://www.moneysupermarket.com/roadsiderescue/

I use it every year and it seems to work well.

I might have guessed you'd have a better one ;-)

Having used CN for both car and bike cover I was out of touch - but when
CN wanted to double the price of my car policy I scraped for breakdown
cover and found a Europ Assist policy going supercheap - Gold cover for
the price of their basic at ~35 quid - so I had it.

Same here, only the car was insured with the Pru & the bike with CN. Pru
came with free Green Flag, CN with Axa breakdown.

Now the car is with "big rebate at Quidco" and the bike policy cost £70
from Ebike. Ebike give UK breakdown cover so I got the car covered with the
Platinum level of cover from EA, for £59. This can be flipped to the bike
for European excursions, as nobody else uses the car whilst I'm away.

I just got a quote from EA and it was 85 quid! And no mention of
'Platinum' as a product name, either.

I used the platinum moniker as that is used on the screen scraper that Pip
quoted - they ask you to select the type of cover you want using silver,
gold & platinum. Platinum includes getting the vehicle home & giving you a
hire car to complete your journey.

As stated in an earlier thread, buy the EA policy from
    http://www.quotelinedirect.co.uk/breakdown/ as it is £59

Sorry this is such a late reply. Google Groups user, what can i say? :

I originalyl took out the insurance with LETSXL but eventually the
name of the company changed. I googled for LetsXL tenants contents
insurance and found this link: https://letsxlinsurance.co.uk/tenantshomepage
