I'd assumed lower figures across the board, but you're right.

It does prompt the question why can't they just take the work home
with them and leave at a more sensible hour? That's what most people
    would do.

Yes, dear. I know, dear. I used to live (for my sins) in the Woolwich &
Eltham areas. Much further in than where I am now, no sign of a tube for
    miles, unlike now.

Of course, none of that has anything to do with the specific situation I
    mentioned.

Anyway, if prime commuter-belt London really has such shite transport
links that anything after 7pm was touch-and-go, isn't that something that
really ought to have the local MPs fighting tooth and nail to improve it,
rather than smugly smiling and working around it...?

Your public transport system is shite. I tried to get from Croydon to
Carshalton on Sunday. Yes they sell you a ticket. No the train doesn't go
    there on a Sunday.
    I reverted to black cabs.

    This is exactly right.

For example, although I'm not exactly happy about Hazel Blairs
designating different houses as her main residence for CGT purposes
and Parliamentry expenses purposes, it's not exactly the greatest sin
in the world. My complaint is against a system that allows the
mortagage interest on a second home to be charged to the tax-payer,
but the entire profit on sale to be pocketed by the MP - and against
MPs, such as HB, who think it right not only to do that but to deny
    HMRC even a small cut.

I'd be surprised if they go up to midnight.

  8. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Champ
Then (radical idea, I know), start at a sensible time in the morning,
and finish at a sensible time in the evening.

Many businesses manage this quite successfully.

They used to - but I thought that'd been changed since '97, and it was
    now a rarity?

Then they need to get better organised.

Stop at 10PM, back in, bums on seats ready to work by 8AM, it's hardly
    a revolutionary concept.

IIRC it was about making it single mother friendly or somesuch. But it
mirrors business life where people do whatever it takes I guess. I don't
    understand the long recesses though?

Being an MP is only intended to be a part-time job, is it?

To have had a business life, yes, absolutely.
To retain it and have both simultaneously, no.
