off in the third shot, but on second viewing it does look more like an
animal leg.

Have you used the right Blackwood? - 'cos all I can find are some small
flats in the arse end of nowhere for that kind of cash.

If you look at anything vaguely near civilisation or bigger than a flat,
then £50k is the starting price for run-down auction property.

But the point isn't about buying a "nice" house. It's about buying a
house. The housing is there but people don't want to buy it. And I
include myself in that. I didn't buy until I could buy where I wanted
to. Luckily I did it just before the market went silly.

 

Yes, but the reason why those properties are cheap is that they either
need tens of thousands spending on them to get them up to any vaguely
livable standard (stuff like that was worth well under £10k a few years
back) or are too small for anyone who doesn't live alone, or have such
poor transport links that they're effectively out of the question if you
want to get to work.

The 10 miles is as the crow flies - which nearly doubles on the road.

There's no point in buying a house if you can't live in it until you've
spent double it's value on renovation or if you can't get to work from
it.

 

I've not 'owed' more than one month's expediture on any cards since
about 1998. Sometimes that's been in the thousands, but after having a
permanent rolling balance for some years I decided I'd had enough of
paying stupid interest rates.

Generally they put a surcharge if you don't, but the effect is the same.

I still don't do them. I pay the surcharge for using a credit card
because it's worth it to me for the protection. I am prepared to pay a
bit extra for not using a DD because I do not want anyone just diving
into my bank account.

But if the buy-to-let landords don't buy to let, who else will? There are
already thousands of houses unoccupied around the country and councils are
loathe to buy them OR build new council housing, so it's either going to be
a private landlord or a housing association who buys and lets.

There are some shite landlords, so maybe it's those who you really object
to.
