Brisbane Motorshow

WHAT A LETDOWN! There a only 2 maunfacurers represented - HD as always
and Suzuki. Ok, BMW had 3 or 4 on there car display too but apart from
that and some scooters, there was no Kawas, Yams or any other main
brand. I won't be going again next year because it has just turned
into a 3-day in door car yard. Might as well save the $16 and walk up
and down the magic mile at mooorooka one Saturday morning.....

 

What about the 4 wheels ?

Well I am only interested in a couple of vehicle. The new Audi S8 that
was released at the Melbourne Motor Show was not bought up for the
Brissie show (I gave them a piece of my mind for that), the new Focu
XR5 4WD Turbo, and the BMW M6. Apart from that it is just a sales
gimmick for oldies and a dream fest for young'ens (Lambo's and WRX's)

Druel... is that what you get when you dribble gruel ?

While what you say is true, you have to recognise that the only way that
the prestige brands can justify their price premium over an otherwise
equivalent performing vehicle is for them to be aspirational for the mug
punter who can't afford them.

It's also the case that people drool over what they can't afford/justify
and then buy the lower spec model - the so called "halo effect" hence
why the existence of V8 Monaros and Commodores helps the sales of the 6
cylinders, and the 4wd Ford Territory sells at an eighth of the rate of
the otherwise identical appearance 2wd model. Putting an A8 on the stand
at the show won't help sell many A8's, but it'll probably sell a lot of
A3's and A4's

There's more to marketing than just the sales numbers. Why do people pay
4 times as much for Dainese gear that's no better quality than the stuff
you sell ? Stupidity and ignorance is one reason but there's others.
