  1. Yeah, but you're a Bloke.
Oh God, don't make me think about that. Substantial four figures.

Part of the "problem" is that I may not buy that many, but I never get rid
of them, either. Himself is also bewildered by my concept of shoes you can
walk in and shoes that are for admiring.

  2. Is that also to do with "The Search for The Perfect Glove?"

Sometimes, but I see them and just want to buy them regardless.

  4. You do realise that's scarily close in feeling to gurls and shoes. <g> FiL
was like it with pens. Had hundreds of the damn things.

That may be true, could you please explain why I've also owned 29 Yamaha
    RD400s in the past.

There is a secondary problem that a lot of people who are intelligent
enough and motivated enough to do it also have lots of other career
options that don't involve getting shot at.

  7. Ah. There are some great mysteries of the universe that even a gurl cannot

Old news. My ex-wife was twice threatened with guns when she was a
student nurse at the Central Middx and Northwick Park hospitals- this
was back in the late 80s.

  10. Blimey. Those are our locals, so to speak. Hadn't realised it went that far
back in terms of guns - I knew that staff often got threatened, even then.

I do wonder about gun crime: why on earth would someone try and hold up our
Indian takeaway with a gun? If he had more than two hundred quid on site,
I'd be amazed, and the perp risks a long jail sentence.

In the 1960's my late BiL worked for Crittal metal Windows. They
blagged a contract to install riot proof windows in every nick in the
country. In the late 70's The Mother of Them All worked for the DSS.
Tilbury, in her area, was among the first in the country to have bullet
proof glass put between staff and clients. Decisions about installing
this stuff were made quite a while before installation.

The man my mother insists I call my father was a VAT inspector. He has
noted in the past that many of the enquiries he and his colleagues made
of Indian restaurants regarding VAT evasion resulted in a file being
sent to the Drug squad. Draw your own conclusions.

You are right, you don't know much.

ooOOOooh! Handbags and curling tongs at dawn?

There are the other options you forgot: Ignore you, or reply back.
He is just expressing his opinion you know.

It's the opinion I'd expect from a wee tainted supercentenarian that
never gives any balls back that land on his lawn mind you, but it still
is just an opinion and he has the right to express it.

Counter insurgancy is what a government does - you used the word in your
first post. Khmer Rouge were not the government after January 1979, so
are you saying that Maggie wanted to help them get back into power?

  17. I'd not inflict my handbag on anyone, the damn thing weighs several kilos.
Quite. I ignore some, others I reply to, depending on whim.
Oh, it wasn't the opinion that prompted the bullying remark, it was the
    suggestion that I should leave.
    <snort> Love the description.

Yeah, but she'll soon learn the fact that everyone in here just takes
the piss, winds everyone else up, and the odd time they get that annoyed
they actually let slip and reveal themselves it's all gruff voices,
shouting and hoping no one noticed.

Real life OTOH, well, thats when those odd moments come in and you know
    who's a **** and who isn't.

    <thinks>

But letting one dislikeable aspect of someone stop you from knowing the
    rest of them isn't fair.

  20. I'd noticed. :) Silverbacks, as a head hunter chap I know describes some
    sales chaps.
Usually when they crap on you deliberately, ime.
Well, as far as I can see, there are a couple of people who've decided I
have nothing likeable at all about me. Not a complaint, it's simply a
statement. The interesting - to me - thing is that a) those same folk post
stuff that I find of interest on occasion and b) I've very rarely
encountered anyone who I totally disliked.
You'll be quoting bad poetry next.
