A number of ways to do it, but health warning as I have had a few
    pints

Is there a welder who could weld the shock back together? You will
probably end up with no damping but at least a spring and a bouncy
ride that will get you to a mechanic

In the old days we would take the shock out and replace it with a
length of wood of similar length. However there is a good chance that
    you will damage the linkages.

Any old cars you can nick a shock of vaguely similar size- and put the
damper rod from it inside the bike spring.

Don't think you will manage 200 klicks on it as it is.

Not sure if this is much use or even practical as I'm only functioning
on two brain cells as I have been having a few pints watching England
lose 24-8 to Ireland in the rugby

Leave her there with the bike while you ride to Pta Arenas and back?
It looks like a decent road, but if it breaks along the way, you're
really screwed. Any 3rd world jerry-rigging geniuses around?

    Clumsy cnut.

That bike's utterly mankin' underneath, are there no brushes and soapy
water where you are ? ;)

Either leave the bike (if you can find a safe place) and take Jean
pillion with you and get a spare for local fitment, or rig something
up involving wood and cable ties and see how far you get.

    Ride safe,

    Cheers,
    Paul.

We need to source the part yet .....

A solution is at hand, the bike mechanic in PA has a friend on his way
here, with a truck. He can take the bike to PA :)

We may be at the end of the world a while longer while we get thing
    fixed :-(

Or better, find a man who can do the work, who happens to have a friend
who is coming his way in a truck ...... :)

Probably should check the linkage bearings.
They might have seized up and put some sideways forces on the shock,
    causing it to break.

Replace it with a big chunk of wood and ride slowly.

can't you swap it for something more reliable, like a llama?

  11. No fucking way, that's the lower body snapped off, not just the eye.
Spit her off, or jam the wheel up.
So, take it off and hotfoot yourself to the mechanic with it as a
    pattern or possible repair.

At least you didn't suggest a BMW, most of them seem to have broken well
    before they get this far.

Soo, pretty lucky so far then ?
It's an option, but currently sat here waiting for mechanics mate to turn
    up and take it away.

Not sure I have all the right tools to get the shock off, but if needed I
am sure I an find a man who does.

Hey, it's not the End of the World. Close, though.

So, about the condition of those roads. Smooth, or washboard?

Well, now I have had warnings of many people, no.

As it has already done between 100-150kms like that, I will guess Jean
    has had a luck escape.

As the ripio was so rough, she does not have a clue when it went.
