Pah. Not so long ago, PB did their "24 heures du M25", and I clearly
remember reference to a knee-down moment around the M25/A21 interchange.
    Slow down my arse.

    No it's not.
And one cannot trust any journalist to stick to that. They will even
hand over their "confidential" sources on a plate.

I take it you are one of the inky-fingered slackers?

    The handling was *that* bad...?

  6. See you are missing the bigger picture here. Given your line of work, I
don't suppose for a moment you are up on current affairs much but it
just so happens that the #10 Spin-o-matic is waging a war^W^W^W finds
itself in a position of having to be critical about journos and them not
keeping secrets about secret wars and stuff and Tone is miffed.

Coincidence? I'll leave Des to comment on that one but...

It might be that Brunstrom is merely a part of the smokescreen designed
to keep us from the point/get us worked up about the fact and that to
protect my interests and keep me free The Gummint will be bringing out
half a dozen new laws, one for every day of the week except Sundays to
gag the plagiarising bastards if they keep on using stuff they have been
told to make leaks with. Although I don't see the point. I mean, they
should gag the bloke what writes things in the first place not the
journos who copy it but that is polo ticks for you.

  7. But surely having fun doesn't neccesarily preclude driving or riding safely?

That's *not* what they normally do when given briefings 'off the record' -
or asked specifically *not* to comment upon certain information they are
given. There was only one journalist out of the lot who broke that
    confidence.
He didn't need permission - the photograph was copyright of the North Wales
Police. They took it, they owned it, they had the right to show it.
To demonstrate in graphic horror the results of stupid speeding.

Only one journalist out of all those who attended betrayed the confidence.

That this horror is the result of idiotic, unthinking speeding?

I'm assuming that Gibney was overtaking at the time. If he had been
travelling at the speed limit then it is likely that he would not have had
    any need to overtake?

Bearing in mind the report is very brief and makes no comment other than the
facts of the case, it is difficult to see how you could take issue with it.
In what way do you consider that the DM has embellished the story then?
Oh! So he committed suicide by deliberately riding head-on into the oncoming
    car? Well it's a possibility I suppose.

    The only thing we
Clearly the coroner, who will have heard all the evidence, had no doubt
about the standard of driving here.

I don't mind the fact that Gibney displayed courage and ended up killing
himself. By all accounts he was no great loss to society. What I take issue
with is those who have the 'courage' to take unnecessary risks and end up
seriously injuring or killing those of us who are more sensible on the
    roads - as Gibney did.

    message
And I have many years experience of dealing with the press and have *never*
had any problems with journalists reporting matters that I have given to
them but asked them not to print. As I pointed out elsewhere - journalists
are not stupid, they know full well that if they betray confidences - they
are unlikely to be taken into confidence ever again.

I thoroughly enjoy my driving Dave - and have always done so. That was one
of the reasons I volunteered for 'Traffic' when I was in the police. The
difference between us seems to be that you enjoy driving fast whereas I can
get all my enjoyment out of driving well! I do not need to exceed speed
    limits to enjoy my driving.

Into the kf. Why anyone would want to debate with a foul-mouthed oaf who has
no consideration for anyone but himself I just don't know.
