Quite. I ran over a fox's carcass this morning because I was
concentrating on not exceeding (by too much) the 6000rpm limit.

A comparison can be made to watching the speedo to remain within the
limit and not seeing a fridge in the road. In Brunstrom's words it
    could have been "carnage".

I'm sure the fox and his relatives would think it was already carnage.

If whatever hit the fox first had been doing a sensible 3mph, then I
doubt the it would have got hit in the first place.

Or maybe it should have looked both ways first. Or run faster.

Brimstone () gurgled happily, sounding much like they
    were saying :
I'm sure the fox was past worrying.

It speaks volumes that Plod consider the words "P**s off and catch
some real criminals" are considered anti police.

It wasn't that long ago that the Police were openly interested in
catching criminals. Now the mere suggestion that the Police should
take an interest in something other than revenue generating motoring
    offences is considered anti-police.

It does if your intention is to persuade the select few to bias their

  9. Like depressingly many. And they usually carry on doing that speed
    through the villages as well.

The journalist also did not need permission to report that the

Not at all - I'm merely pointing out that something that appears to have
raised the wrath of the Brits is commonplace elsewhere.

I find it strange that there's such criticism of this issue on uk.driving
when there's usually very little criticism of the type of driving that
    results in such carnage!

They were fully allowed to report on the fact that during the presentation
they were shown photographs that showed in graphic detail the results of
stupid driving. What they were asked *not* to do was to report on specific
aspects of individual photographs. In effect, he was trying to get the press
on his side instead of on the side of the anti-gatso brigade. Pointing out
to the press the ghastly results of reckless speeding.

Your mental image is so far off the reality that it's laughable - but if
that's how you wish to view someone who considers skilled and safe driving
as more important than going fast, then that's up to you.

I'm no stranger to fast driving remember - I was a Traffic constable,
traffic sergeant and traffic inspector for a fair time during my career. The
difference between us is that I had plenty of time to see, not just
photographs of grisly dismemberments - but the reality in the flesh. I also,
during my career, had to deliver 'death messages' to NOK on far too many
occasions. It is perhaps these aspects that make me take a different view of
    driving to you.

A good Chief Constable shouldn't have to try to get the press on his
side. The manner in which he handles his force should be enough.
