And I certainly do not think that all bikers are bad - sadly, today, it is
rare to see a bike being driven sensibly and safely.

  2. It depends on your definition of "safe". Online dictionaries offer
about 8 different definitions. if you mean that in this instance you
arrived "safe" & sound it's true that you did.

If you mean you were "Secure from danger, harm, or evil", a successful
outcome in that one selected instance is not sufficient to prove that
    was the case.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone 'drive' a bike.

You 'drive' cars, but 'ride' bikes.

I'd have thought an ex-trafplod would have known that.

I have never ever said 'told you so' to him - he knows that I was right and
he was wrong and does not need telling.

Which is a *lot* harder to do at 100 mph than at 5 mph - is it not?

  7. You have never ridden a bike on the roads have you? Or if you have it
is not recently and certainly not on a regular basis. This much is
obvious from the manner in which you talk out of your arse.

You seem to be under the impression that paying your road tax permits you to
do what you want on the roads which is an obvious nonsense. You have a
licence to drive on the roads - *subject* to complying with all the various
legislation pertaining to driving on those roads.

You might just as well argue: "I pay for my shotgun licence and therefore
have every right to use it as I see fit. If I want to blow a few heads off,
    then I will."

The 'cruiser' I waved past me on the A470 whilst sat at some temp.
    lights didn't, no.....

Fucker stormed up behind me, so I waved him through, only to be held up
by him for the next 15 miles of twisties :-(

The rider of a yellow Daytona who came past at the same time, gave me a
cheery wave and rapidly fucked off into the distance.

Thanks for pointing out the typo.
I believe that everyone *should* be shown such photographs.
    Yes indeed - but I don't believe that I'm in a hole.

Would you like to take a look at recent gun death stats for the States?

So you're happy to break the law as long as there's little to no chance of
    being nicked?

The simple reason being that, like good car drivers, you don't notice
    normally them.

You don't actually believe that the citizenry of the UK would be any more
responsible with guns than those of the States do you? Only two days ago a
16 year old lad killed his sister by accident.

I rode my own motorcycles from the age of 16 for a few years. First bike was
a BSA C12 250, second was an AJS 350, and I ended my personal biking with a
Norton Dominator. I briefly rode a police motorcycle in Sussex Police in
the early 1970's when they experimented with using Honda 200's instead of
panda cars. I have not ridden a bike since then. But tell me, as you take
issue with the comment above - I take it that you *do* believe that all
    motorcyclists are equally skilled?

There is also the further problem that skilled does not necessarily go hand
in hand with *responsible*. Even highly skilled drivers and riders can act
    irresponsibly and dangerously.

The present ban was brought in as a knee-jerk reaction to a specific
incident. An incident which could have been prevented if (according to press
reports) the local copper had been listened to by his superiors and others.

So, because a senior copper failed to act when given strong, direct advice
by a subordinate, a man with a known mental health problem was allowed to
retain not only his firearms licence but his weapons as well. As a result
some eighteen people died and all handguns were banned from private
    ownership regardless of circumstances.

Since then, there has been an increase in gun crime.
Which simply demonstrates that the present legislation isn't working.
