Boothby something rings a bell. I liked him, although we went prepared
to be entertained by BNL which was to his advantage as the opener.

  3. In matters of freedom of spirit I am still firmly wrapped up in me
    mortal coil have no fear.

In general I feel that I find me criticising myself far to often for
catching me riding like an utter ****.

I figure I am being any one or more of the following:-

    A) far too self critical
    B) not as clever at hiding it from me as I think I am.
    c) riding/driving like an idiot, or worse.

and that the statement remains fundamentally true.

Hazel Blears is a bike rider too, from what I read. Apparently she owns
a Benelli 250-4 cos it's the only remotely sporty bike she can reach the
    floor on.

Completely different circumstances, and you should really know this too.
On the other hand, you appear to be too thick to realise this, so I'll
    let it pass this time.

If the stories were anything like the drivel you post to usenet, then
    it's hardly surprising.

I'm not sure whether you are after a definition of the word or are
questioning its use. It doesn't really matter. If you were questioning
its use in this context, you probably need a reminder of its
    definition anyway.

Doing a Google for "define: victim" returns "an unfortunate person who
    suffers from some adverse circumstance".

I believe that there was indeed justification for it. There are far too
many people (many on this NG) who treat roads as a playground - as somewhere
to have 'fun'. Clearly the biker in the photograph was one of such people
but learned to late the consequences of his stupid actions. Many people
have never seen the graphic results of serious road accidents and have a
somewhat sanitised view of them. Showing photographs like this brings fully
home the consequences of stupid driving.

You say it was not a confidential briefing - but that is not correct. The
attendees were advised that what they were about to see was for their eyes
only and not for public consumptions. Had that confidence been respected
there would have been no fuss and no distress caused to the family.

Kev - just in case you are minded to include me in that category, I can
assure you I do not treat roads as a playground - as somewhere to have
fun - as you put it. I immensely enjoy driving, and that, as you know,
frequently includes some fairly high speed, but I do it carefully and
with proper consideration for other people - as I expect most of us do.
I wouldn't seek to defend those who tear about with little or no
regard for the safety of themselves or others, and I doubt if there are
    many on here who would.
Do you know anything about the circumstances of his crash that justifies
that assertion? It might not have been his fault. The biker may have
paid a terrible price for a mistake made by somebody else.

    Best wishes all,
    Dave.

The father of the dead man hasn't told anyone in his family how his son
ended up decapitated - trusting the media to keep quiet showed naievity of
the greatest magnitude, a simple 'can we show his picture' would have
prevented a certain amount of heartache.

Perhaps you will join me in hoping that doesn't happen, but in the
meantime please can we have a bit of understanding for those who enjoy a
bit more fun (if I may dare use that word) in their driving/riding.

    Best wishes all,
    Dave.

  20. We don't do we?

I have not been particularly trying to find out but the circumstances of
the accident it does seem not to be a matter of high profile attention.
I just wonder what they are trying to hide from us.
