Plenty of people use the roads to 'have fun' - hobby motorists, 'bikers,
cyclists, runners, horse riders, to name but a few and they mostly know
how to fit in. It's the so-called 'professionals' and people travelling
to and from work/schools who cause most of the crap on the roads, from
what I can see of it...

    From Daily Mail online:

"Father-of-three Mr Gibney, 40, of Crawford Close, West Derby, was killed in
a head-on collision with a car on the B5105 near Llanfihangel GM in
    September, 2003.

He failed to spot the oncoming Vauxhall Astra in a dip and collided at an
estimated 95mph in a 60mph zone. He was decapitated and the driver suffered
    serious injuries.

A coroner later branded Mr Gibney's riding "reprehensible." The roofer had
no licence, no insurance, no training and had a false number plate. "

Which makes the T-Shirt the fool was wearing, : "P*** off and catch some
real criminals" even more farcical. Very obviously Mr Gibney was a 'real
    criminal'.

We'll all end up as a corpse. By that point, I won't care if I'm
    headless or not.

And that definition does most certainly not fit Mr Gibney who was the cause
of his own demise due to his own criminally reckless riding.

    I don't believe there was.
    Is having fun illegal now?
I rather expect that were we able to ask the biker he would be
STRONGLY against the police using his image as part of an "anti-speed"
campaign. It is perhaps Mr Brunstrom that is now learing, too late,
the consequences of his stupid actions.
Fine. Show pictures without identifying information. Show pictures
where the relatives have given consent.
Unless one of his family was a journalist at the meeting?

How does holding a "closed meeting" to present "confidential" material
"not for public consumption" give publicity to anything?

Take the money away from benefits paid to the long term "sick" and money
spent on the "race industry" and other assorted political correctness
like printing Social Security leaflets in fucking Urdu, and provide
facilities for otherwise law-abiding people to use these bikes legally.

    We paid the taxes...

Moral criteria don't enter into definitions of words.

The family have neither acted like arseholes, nor snuffed themselves.

    Care to try again?

It is where that 'fun' is likely to result in death and injury to other
people. Just like Mr Gibney and his pathetic T-shirt.
I have no doubt whatsoever that you are right - particularly as he didn't
regard himself, a reckless driver with no driving licence or insurance, as a
    'serious criminal'.

It is perhaps Mr Brunstrom that is now learing, too late,
Apart from some criticism from certain quarters - what might those
    consequences be?
I have no doubt that the police would have made sure that there were no such
    familial connections within the audience.

    But that's _what_ _they_ _do_.

No distress would have been caused in this instance if one stupid
chief cuntstuble hadn't decided to show a room full of journalists a
picture (which he had no permission to show) of an identifiable
    dead motorbiker.
    So why show the picture?

Oh for goodness sake. Because the publicity was in connection with the road
safety campaign 'Arrive Alive'. It would have been perfectly in order for
the journalists to have referred to photographs showing the horrific results
of speeding without referring to that specific photograph which could only
result in the identification of the idiot rider.

They're shown for training or evaluation purposes, I'm sure.

Not shown "confidentially" to a bunch of journalists in order to drum up
some publicity (I still don't quite understand how that's supposed to work).

No, Steve, I don't have any information as to what happened, but I'm
disappointed to find that Kev seemed to blame it all on the biker in a
sort of 'serve him right' fashion.

    Best wishes all,
    Dave.

So a sudden, unexpected, instant, painless death was too good for him.
What was Brunstrom's message supposed to be?

    Eiron, Apr 29, 2007

  18. If you think about this, what you are actually saying (by logical
inference) is that using the roads should not be enjoyable.

Now think again, because that is a very, very stupid thing to say.

That simply means that the journalists could not republish the
photographs. It does not mean that they cannot report the existence of
    and display of the photographs.
Had Brunstrom not shown the photograph there would have been no fuss and
no distress caused to the family.
