Bugger. GN250 exhaust doesn't fit

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Nov 15, 2009.

  1. Nope, the US-spec two-into-two system won't fit on the left-hand side.
    That's £100 up the Swannee.

What's interesting is that Suzuki have welded the pillion peg brackets
onto the loops that carry them. The pillion peg brackets actually have
holes in them for a bolt to pass through, but as they're welded directly
to the frame loops, they're useless.

HoHum. I'll have to buy a 2-1 system from Wemoto, then. That leaves me
with a brace of header-silencers that probably won't fit anything this
side of the Atlantic. I'll keep 'em, though, because "they might come in
handy". If nothing else, there's a pair of nice silencers there that
could be chopped off and bolting onto something else one day.

Can't you remove the pegs (angle grinder/dremel stylee) and move them
up/down/somewhere slightly different and just drill the silencer
    mounting holes?

    's only a winter hack after all ... ;)

Quite, sounds like nothing that couldn't be bodged, so long as a cunning
bracket can be fashioned from a bit of scrap. But TOG will be thinking
    resale value!

  4. Not really, because there is no bracket to drill through. The pegs are
welded directly to the pillion frame loop.

Also, the sidestand seems to foul the left-hand pipe as well.

Cut the welded bracket off the 2 into 1 then use a bolt on bracket to
attach it to a convenient point. OR shorten the welded on bracket then
bolt some metal to it that you can attach elsewhere to the bike.
Footrest left unmolested, resale value protected new exhaust
    unpurchased.

IT is after all a SOB for commuting

  6. You're missing the point. The problem is attaching the pipe on the side
that is left naked with the stock system. There is no mounting point, no
    brackets, nothing.

    In communiqué <1j98ti4.qn16hpym1x6oN%>,
A job for a welder then, but the side stand fouling may be more of an
    issue.

Take a look at the exploded parts diagrams at cmsnl, the difference is
most likely a bit of simple bracketry and bent metal.

Ta for that. I still think I'll just buy the correct exhaust instead of
    buggering around.

The cmsnl webshite will have the parts fishes for both the UK an US models.
A comparison between 2 windows should be enlightening, the differences
    will be simple.

Heh. I still haven't unboxed my Lidl welder.

Anyway, ordered a pattern 2-1 system today from Wemoto. I'll find a
use for the US one, one of these days.
