    Bloody volvos!

Coming home from work this arv, conveniently close to Calvary Hospital, a
    Volvo
suddenly pulled in front of the small car that was travelling in front of
me. The car in front of me slammed on his brakes. So did I.

And then I watched the car in front getting closer and closer and there was
a thump and I executed a beautiful flip over the handlebars, wondered
briefly whether I was about to die and how much it would hurt, and hoped my
bike wouldn't run over my head. Then all was still and I was still alive and
wanted to stay that way, so I jumped up like the racers do after an off, and
accepted the assistance of a couple of people who wheeled my bike off the
road for me. I was very shaky.

The official stuff and swapping of details over, I got the bike started
again (what a relief that was!) and rode it to Calvary to have myself
    checked out.

After some x-rays and a yummy dinner they sent me home. One of my riding
buddies works in emergency, and she was fabulous, as were the mates who came
to take me and my bike home.

I will be multicoloured around the knee region, and have holes in my
overpants and jacket (Dririder, not the Joe Rocket, thank goodness!) I think
I whacked my knee on the tank as I flipped over, coz there's a nice little
dent in it (in the tank - the knee has come up like a balloon). The front
mudguard is rooted, not to put too fine a point on it, and the right exhaust
is a little bent out of shape. Poor little GPX.

I have a bit of soft-tissue damage around the knees and lower back, and
walloped my sternum on something, but nothing is broken. I think I'll be
hobbling about for a couple of days.

Thank goodness for my safety gear :)

    black and blue betty. Bugger.

    Arrgh; commisserations Betty.
Sadly; I fear that you have not yet begun to hurt!
The next few days will reveal soreness in parts you never knew could be
injured (but Johnno has lusted over none the less!)

Welcome to the club Betty, however you get a "C" this time for not spotting
    a Volvo!!
At least you'll heal, but unfortunately the bike won't...hope you were
    insured?
    Get well soon.

Yes, a C for not spotting the volvo AND for not leaving enough
distance/escape between you and the car in front.

Unfort I dont think you have a legal leg to stand on (let alone a good
knee). Hope the cops dont book you! They would in NSW!

    Good to hear your ok.
Don't cry too much over the bike, I have been surprised how cheap my GPX has
been to repair after accidents if you are willing to hunt for second hand
    parts.

I had another accident (3 in my first 12 months) last Monday morning, van
driver got caught behind a r/h turning car so cut into my lane without
indicating and hit my rear just in front of my r/h rear indicator. 40km
speed limit. Managed to stay up but the bike got some panel damage and broke
that silver triangle that holds the exhaust and pillion peg.

    :p

Insert lecture about leaving enough space here.

    Bonus points for style! :)

    Hope you heal quick.

Ahhh... the evil empire of Volvo aren't quite dead yet I see (although
eclipsed these days by the super power "suburban mums in SUV's").

Glad to hear you weren't seriously hurt Betty :)

Just waiting for the aches and pains to subside a bit so I can ride my poor
bike out to the workshop for a check-up and insurance assessment. Clem
reckons I have not yet BEGUN to hurt, so I'm not really looking forward to
    tomorrow - eek!

Thanks to everybody for your nice thoughts, encouragement, well-deserved
lectures and everything else. Will be back on in no time :) My bike is my
lifeline, and nothing's going to change THAT!

    bruised betty the stubborn
<whimper> Johno sweetie - just this once - you reckon you could get me a
beer? <fluttering eyelashes and being a damsel in distress> Pleeeease?
(oh well, worth a try, hee hee)

Uh oh! Play the Damsel-in-distress card and he may not only get you a beer, but offer to kiss it better (the aches and pains, not
the beer....well.....OK the beer as well)!
