Absolutely right. I should've been further back as well. Didn't see it
coming and nor did the bloke in front of me - Mr Volvo simply shot in
front - no warning - and in the split second that was all it took for me to
miss seeing the second car's brakes go on I was doing a mirror check
preparatory to going around him - but I couldn't anyway (I'd been stuck
behind him for a while, and was looking for a gap so I could get past) - but
people were flying up on both sides of me going far faster than I was. Not
sure whether this is peculiar to Canberra, but the standard is for everybody
to do 100 in an 80 zone. It's actually quite scary - people just go faster
and faster, and anyone doing anything vaguely close to the speed limit (like
the bloke in front of me) irritates the crap out of everyone else on the
road (the Volvo driver may have been one such, who knows).

Not making excuses - yes it was a hard lesson in the need to be more
defensive. Also a lesson that sometimes shit happens and your best efforts
to avoid it can be thwarted.

Why are you compelled to question just about everything I say or do? You
don't give a rats about the answer, you're just being a pedant (again). I
had perfectly valid reasons for posting it here but see no reason to explain
myself to you Nev. Pull your head in.

Put it down to experience Betty, I bet that there are not many in this
channel that haven't tossed it down the road for one reason or
    another.

just an exxy learning curve :(

  5. Hmmm. "Tis true, but your m/c speedo is telling you stories too: at a
real 80k it's probably indicating nearer 90k (this is particularly true
of Japanese m/c) and then as you say, everyone speeds a little. Doesn't
take too much of that to show 100k on a m/c speedo.

I'm trying to make Johno jealous.
on the contrary, I am very interested in what would compel a person to
send a private message to someone, and then let the rest of the world
know that they had sent a private message to that person. Why not just
post the contents of the SMS message to the newsgroup and be done with it?
Don't get upset over usenet. There're plenty of things in the real
world to get upset about, like Volvos :)
