I've been trying to work out what the clonking is on the back suspension
for a couple of days now. This afternoon I had a good look around, and
eventually found play in the shock absorber pivot arm.

Fuckit, that looks like about 3 quids worth of parts and at least half a
    days of work to do.

I think them there bearings may cost a bit more than 3 quid...

Oooh, pivot linkage bearings and bushes needed there then, prolly some
    seals as well.

    Guess What?

You CANNOT get them anywhere but the OEM supply.

Cost me around £90 to do the bandit, however now the shock works properly.

About 20 quid from the FJOC.

No seals on these, just a couple of daft tin shields.
I can get a set from the FJ Owners club.

    Bargain.
Make sure you tell them the right year. I think they may have changed
those bearings between models 1990 and 1991. I see you have ABS, that
    means a later model.

but of course, how else would you prevent water and dirt from getting
    into the bearing?
I would be interested to know how much of a difference that makes, can
    you let me know?

    Ignore the other post then.

BTW you should do the bushes and pivot pins as well.

Getting the new bearings in is tricky and requires the use of a drawbolt
affair, the HBOL will tell you how.

Aye, I think they add another tenner, which in all isn't too bad.
Righto. I have the Clymer BOL here.

Erm, perhaps with something a tiny bit more substantial than what they
    have here.
Already answered I see (I learn quick I do!).
