It went back to Orbital and from what I can make out Ford got the
Fiesta back to their development people without.

Orbital are still developing that concept and more recently fitted a
batch of engines into a number of small Jap hatchbacks and ran them on
Aussie roads for huge numbers of miles. All those cars have had the
Orbital engines removed and the original ones refitted before selling
them on - my friend owns one of them now.

  3. I try to avoid paracetamol since it seems to be a migraine trigger for
me.. (possibly from over-use!) One dose I can get away with but if I
have more than one dose I'm pretty certain to get a migraine about 8
    hours later..
I've had various painkillers over the years - aceclofenac (Preservex),
Vioxx (before it was withdrawn from the market). I've not been put on
    arcoxia though.

I've got an appointment to see the specialist in a month and a half. If
my joints haven't settled down then he'll change my arthritis meds from
sulphasalazine to something else (not methotrexate!) - probably
    Leflunomide or Infliximab.
Moving the joints slowly all the time helps - the psoriatic arthritis
effects are more noticable after periods of inactivity (ie sleeping) or
late at night. Or if I use the mouse for long periods my hands lock up
in the mouse-holding position and it hurts like hell to unlock them..

But this is PB we're talking about - years since I read it, but it
always looked like someone had taken a rider's comments verbatim and
then gone through a reverse grammar and spell checking process.

  6. What he said. Rupert Paul and the late John Robinson come to mind.
Roland Brown. Maybe Mat Oxley. Damn few others.

    FB, PB, what's the difference?

In the font I'm seeing this in, very little actually.

At the time, not a lot - PB was more street-focussed, FB had more of a
racing bias, but they were fairly similar. While PB would have yet
another Harris-framed road bike, FB had a classic article where they
took Sean Emmet's Harris YZR500 out for a spin on the road.

I was working in a newsagents at the time, so spent my Saturday
mornings reading PB, FB, UMG and anything else that looked more
interesting than bunging stuff on shelves. I think it was UMG, anyway -
small A5 sized thing that featured mini reviews of every bike around
and was rammed with the kind of anecdotes Pip churns out.

Doh. Not good. I got some pretty scary side effects from steroids, no
head aches... if you discount wanting to bash my head against the
    nearest wall[1].
Hmm.. I guess that you have to cycle through the available options to
find one that helps without doing too much other badness.
Arcoxia is friendlier on the guts, than diclofenac if you've got acis
probs. It's not quite as effective though, and you've got to make sure
you've got no heart probs while on it. One pill a day keeps the
inflamation mostly away. Methotrexate, I got sick off that until I
started injecting it. It really helps me, but there are one or two
    worries being on it.
I get the same sort of thing if I don't move enough, or move too much.

    [1] A very nast experience.

I used to get UMG [1]. I didn't like the other A5 mag, UBG, as that was
a bit wanky but they were broadly the same.

[1] Still have a stack of them.

  11. Yes, he did. And the safety Nazis got all upset, which just made it
    funnier.

The *best* thing about PB of that era was the series of 'subscribe now'
    ads they ran.

Remember? "Subscribe or the turtle gets it!"

They had a plastic toy turtle. Next month: "Not enough of you
subscribed, so we used him as a knee slider!" With an accompanying pic
of the turtle with his shell worn down, and painted blood oozing forth.

I think they followed that up with beating a toy fluffy kitten to death,
and a couple of similar ones. Anyway, someone complained to the
Advertising Standards Authority and they had to can the adverts.
    Hilarious.

All fired up and waiting :) I've actually upped it a little bit, but
I'm being sensible. It's a long schlep to collect, and quite costly,
and there will always be another one out there. It's not like I'm in a
    hurry.

But yes, this one ticks all the boxes.

I suppose a lot depends on how long you plan on keeping it. If you're
looking at it as a long term investment then £1400 isn't bad but if
it's a buy it because you fancy one and then flog it in 12 months then
it's not such a good price.

Trouble is, bidding is now on 920 quid. It's going to go over my
budget. I reckon now it'll fetch 1400 or so. Not saying it isn't worth
it, but it's too rich for my blood, especially with the cost of
    collection.

Christ but you're weird. You want one. This is a good one. What on
earht is a few hundred quid over the period you're going to own it?

Mind you, it's over 1100 now...

Went for 1200 in the end, and not to you, I see. How much were you
    prepared to bid?

    Champ, Aug 22, 2008

  19. Up to just over £1100. After that, the cost and hassle of getting up
there and back outweighed the benefits, and there'll always be another
one closer to home. It's not like I'm in a tearing hurry.
