Well quite, as David Steel said, he was going to pay rent to someone and
fucking your landlord isn't a proscribed act. Considering where most of the
prejudices in the UK lie I can hear the the labour contingent creaking as
they resist shouting "Queer Bastard". It's not as if he has been
duplicitous by run a straight family at the same time.

Nevertheless that he resigned quickly and without fuss I'm guessing he did
think of the landlord as a partner and so was outside the rules, so it's
tough titty.

What is equally funny is the ancient attitudes of the queer establishment.
They criticize him for not outing himself earlier. Wakey Wakey, playing for
the other team isn't special or rare any more and people don't need to be
"role models". I expect MP's to keep their fucking private lives (sic)
exactly that, private and out of the press.

 

Largely because the claims didn't end until September 2009.

 

Hmm, but I read somewhere (Guardian, probably) that his sexuality
was well known. I must admit it was a bit disingenuous of the Torygraph
to say "we didn't seek to expose his sexuality" whilst simultaneously
exposing his landlord/partner as a man...
