  1. Oooh, get him; Bear the UK patriot.
    You fucking Yankee wanker.

  2. Most certainly not. In the absence of Des, Bear's looking for a new
target, but if he thinks I'm going to stand still for his peculiar
attention he can **** right off.

Heheh. I've seen people in the French system stuck in the booth a few
    times too.

I feel I should be shot every time I say I'm going home when in
reality I'm going back to yet another hotel, when that happens you
    *know* you've fucked up.

Taking dual nationality took me about 15 minutes and all I had to do
was swear allegiance to my new country of residence. I did it with my
fingers crossed behind my back so it didn't count and all of a sudden
    I had two passports. Easy.

I've been in the same hotel for 8 weeks and I've got about another 6
to go. I suppose I'll have about 9 or 10 nights in my own bed over
those 6 weeks but if we go away for a weekend over that period that'll
    obviously drop like a stone.

I still find it hard to believe that Adie persuaded me to spend a
small fortune on new bedroom furniture that I hardly ever see..

Er, worrabout voting rights. That's about the only reason for taking
French nationality (and being a civil servant, I suppose).

Anyway, it's all bloody stupid. An English resident in France can't
vote for the French government (which affects the resident's way of
life, etc) whereas the resident can vote for the UK government which
has no direct impact on his way of life.

Apparently after 25 years being outside of the UK, residents lose their
right to vote in the UK, but at the same time can't vote in their
    chosen country of residence.

My M-i-L still gets a vote in Swedish elections but not British. She
    moved here in 1959...

If we didn't have elections at all then these disparities would disappear
    in one fell swoop.

Aye, I guess there's that. Personally it doesn't worry me.
Not sure what the rule is in CH, but probably the same.
Well after 25 years I can't imagine anyone GAS about their 'home'
    country's politics.

It would bother me though. Each to his own, though.
    More than likely.
Quite, but tbh I was thinking more of the issue where they've got no
right to vote for any one government (EU and council elections aside).
