So, I got one of those thingees that clamps around the end of the cables so
you can squirt aerosol lube down inside. Is it just me, or do you have to
disconnect the end of the cable to get enough access to attach the luber
widget? (Considering all the other things I've mucked with, it's silly to be
reluctant to disconnect/reconnect/adjust cables, but if I can avoid it...)

Yep, you gotta take 1 end off

  3. First thing you gotta do is find out if the cable is designed
to be lubed. The ones on my bike are nylon lined and
you are strongly advised not to oil them as the lube
will react with the nylon lining.

First thing you gotta do is find out if the cable is designed
Considering it's a 1981 Honda, methinks the cables were old-tech enough that
the alternative to lubing was new cables...
