Not only have they billed us about 2,000,000% of the actual used
electricity last year, in order to rectify this they would like to come
and read the meter, and only charge us nearly 30 euro for the privilige.

    Merde.

Will they not accept a meter reading from yourself?
    Indeed.

I'm currently limbering up to kick Swalecs arse over the way they've
    been running our gas account.

    Don't. Get. Me. Started.

They - with only retrospective notice - deliberately[1] cut off the
electricity to our entire road this morning between 8:15 and 10:30,
    which wasn't exactly convenient.

Still, that's one way to defrost a freezer. Pity it was full of food.

    [1] maintenance work.

If your freezer defrosts in 2:15, it's fucked.

Assuming you weren't stupid enough to open the door.

Oops. I was a bit miffed with the regular payment they wanted for our
first year, but it was all sorted out after 12 months when they gave us
a refund and reduced the payment from then on to reflect our actual
usage (which has been pretty accurate over a year since). Don't remember
having to pay to have the meter read.

What we did do was have the supply down rated from what it was when the
previous owner was in residence. He had a 3 phase supply to the 'hangar'
and was paying for a high capacity supply. A weird system, but as soon
as we moved in we got EDF to come and change something on our
distribution board that limits the total load or something (plus turn
off the off-peak arrangement as our usage makes it cheaper for it to be
    on standard tariff).

That thing you were trying to watch on tv at the time. The sentence the
bloke was saying ends "madam" or "on national television".

It'll re-freeze, surely. I left the freezer door open all night
recently, half the contents defrosted. Figured **** it, let it all
refreeze again (took 24 hours or so) and I'm not dead yet so it must've
    been alright.

yup, it is - crappy built in no-brand shit with a door that doesn't
always seal properly because the fuckers that previously owned the
house didn't spring for anything better than Ikea and the "cabinet
fronts" or whatever they're called between the freezer and the built
in fridge next to it are slightly misaligned making it difficult to
close both of them properly at the same time - the doors open in
opposite ways with the opening sides adjoining - it's a fucking
    rubbish setup.
no, not until after the power was back on for an hour or so. Don't get
me wrong, I was exaggerating a bit - the food was still frozen, but
there was a bit of a water leak from round the top of the "seal" where
the door wasn't shut properly (I won't blame anyone else for this,
'cos almost certainly I was the last person to "close" the door).

It is annoying isn't it? I had an IFA round the other day kept using it.

Nope, no refund, and next year has been estimated at the same usage as
    last year. Quelle surpise.
Yeah we're limited to 8KW I think - dunno what happens if you go over it
    - drops voltage? Cuts out entirely? If I turn everything on I'm not far
    away.

    ps, YHM.

    WTF?

    Dickheads!

Might be time to look for another supplier... unless they're all as
bad as each other in this respect.

Where's your meter? Ours is outside the boundary on the 'D' road, so
presumably they have no problem reading it whenever they want. Opens
with a 'key'. So special that the key blade of the Octavia, and now
Mazda 6 will open it (or any old screwdriver for that matter). We read
it regularly ourselves to pass on to the letting agent to charge
tenants. The lot in Limoges seem fairly reasonable, though the agent
that dealt with the sale arranged for the visit just after we moved in.
My French was just about up to allowing the chap to estimate how big a
    'fuse' we needed.
Can't remember what ours is set at. I'm guessing that it trips out the
'disjoncteur' in the same way that a lightning strike on a nearby power
line sometimes does. Presumably you can't get it to stay back on until
    you switch something off IYSWIM.
    Received. I'm scanning something.
