Ever since I got my own boarding gear (about 10-11 years ago), I've been waiting for the chance to snowboard on Dartmoor. Still waiting.
Not going to happen though is it? Too many people to process, too much extra work. Easier and cheaper to let a few hundred people die each year instead.

"16. The Minister told us that the premise behind the Government's Motorcycling Strategy is to "mainstream" motorcycling. When questioned, this appeared to mutate into a commitment to encourage motorcycling." Right. So they've written something in management-speak, and they're not doing so well when asked to explain what they mean. Honestly, I could bluff my way as a junior minister at this sort of level without even blushing. -- platypus "Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative."
guig () gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying : Only if you make all those fuckwits with current licences resit the harder test, too. (and, fwiw, I agree with you - the test *should* be significantly harder, and people *should* have to resit it regularly)
Not that clever. I post here, don't I? -- platypus "Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative."
Do you ride a moped or something? All 3 of my bikes do less MPG than the diesel Passat, and I suspect a couple do less than the Porsche.
Well, as soon as I manage to sell my Honda CRX, I can proudly say that all my bikes do use a lot less fuel than the cars. Mind ewe, this *may* have to do more with the fuel consumption of slightly warmed over rotary engines than my bikes being extremely fuel efficient.
I first started skiing in 1975 and people were whinging about the lack of snow back then. "if you'd have come last week you could have skied back to the village but the warm spell has melted all the snow" - they told us. If we hadn't have been told that we'd have been quite happy with what there was.

My first season skiing was in Terminillo, only 100km from Rome 30 odd years ago. When I arrived early Jan there was no snow at all (I was working in Rieti). At the end of that month it snowed, and we were still skiing, admittedly in slush, at the beginning of May. Hmmm, just like this year !
Very expansion-minded these Cornish. Before you know it London will be in Cornall and we'll all be saluting the flag of St Pirran. Phil

Only got a few years to go on, but comparing this season to last, certainly anywhere below 1600M in the local area had a worse time of it than last year, but up here at 2100 it's been almost identical week on week. If anything, I'd say March has been consistently better this year. Matt
