Cam Chain

  1. Does the R6 require it to be changed at 30k miles?

Phoned up to find out how much it'd cost to replace cam chain tensioner
on R6 (need a new rear tyre too so saves me getting hands dirty) cos
have had a bit of a cam chain rattle for a while. Guy asked how many
miles bike had done. When I said 28k, he said that it's recommended
the chain is replaced around 30k.

Now, neither I nor ex-SO have ever had to replace a cam chain on any of
our bikes, so am I being had or is the R6 somehow different?

    Gonna check the books tonight.

What about the tensioner.. and where did you get that manual one?

24K on the ZRX makes me think it might be worth doing..

Sadly that's the conclusion I've come to. Checked the HBoL and it says that
'except in cases of oil starvation, the cam chain wears very little'

Ho hum, guess it'll be a phone call tomorrow to ask them to explain exactly
why they feel I need to change the chain. The £120 labour cost has nothing
to do with it, I'm certain.....

The real pity is that this place has been recommended to me by several
    people as being good.

Times are hard, and it's going to be a long winter for the bike industry
    this year.

What a load of bollocks. Camchain failure is almost unheard of nowadays
providing the tensioner functions correctly. I think he's trying to drum
up work cos you're obviously a clueless gurlie. I know of several very
high mileage sports bikes that have never had camchains replaced, and
    don't need it either.

When I was repping for Bickers I sold DID camchains to dealers, as they
are the DID importers. I think I sold 4 or 5 in all the time I was with
    them.

  6. Not unless it's shagged, no.

Others have responded, I see, so I'll leave it at that.

  7. Changing the tensioner is a piece of piss, but it's only worth doing if
the unit already there is fecked.
