Just a heads up for those who might be interested,
Khatmandu have some pretty good specials going at the moment. Some
useful looking sleeping bags @ half price,

I got a self inflating mattress @ half price, and a couple of robust
compression bags for about $11 each.

With the Unaugural and the Alpine coming up, might be worth a visit.

    Which brings about the question.

How much should you pay and what to look for. I've seen $40 for some and
    $200 for others.

For the bike I've narrowed down how compact it should be and straps for
    tightening the roll.

Self inflating mattresses? Pretty much anything is good. Some are
lighter than others, and those ones tend to be more expensive. I'm
pretty happy with my 3/4" 3/4length generic brand one , but that'd be a
bit minimalist for some (and a bit luxurious for others). These days
they're making quite thick ones, but they're a bit bulky. You'll
probably kill one some day, so a repair kit and spare valve parts are a
    worthwhile bonus.

Marty, they'll generally let you return and rebuy items when that
happens just to prevent lost goodwill. Kathmandu stuff is good quality
and pretty good value at half price.

I've been meaning to buy some compression sacks for a while for the
sleeping bags, but I just used the sledgehammer to cracka walnut
approach and bought some bigger panniers instead... that happened to be
    attached to a 2002 R1150GSa.

Stuff sacks would've been cheaper. Damn!

Hey, from the boy who just had a baby just so he doesn't have to get
his own beers any more, I don't think you can talk.

Oh GS panniers... Am going to buy some new ones for the '07
    India-Europe trip I'm planning.
Aluminium? how $$$? Where? Who? the questions!!

    Hmmm!

Went round Oz last year and Her Ladyship insisted on a two-cell
inflatable mattress (she was not a hardened camper) Bought a 12v pump
to boot. Had a tent that all 6'4" of me could almost "go vert" in...

It worked really well, but too goddamn bulky- so she accepted that 1/
Self inflating mattress 2/ smaller tent.

Got the 3/4 mattresses and am getting one of Kathmandu's 2 person all
season tents: normally $1000ish, now in the $400's. Sweet.

Now for the new suspension bits for the GS (flogged out), and GPS.
    (colour screen please!)
